LS,
I been in that ready to retire state for YEARS now. Just not enough years showing on my drivers license to let me.
KS's fried chicken IS good IF it is fresh. I know we have to ask them to make it fresh for us when we go in to get some. Usually they are pretty nice about it.

I am off work today to try and get a shattered wisdom tooth dealt with. No luck on them pulling it today. Infection has set in and so I have to do the antibiotics for a week then it can be pulled.
YUMMMMYYYYY squishy foods for weeks on end.

This is what we did with where the crab apple tree had been.

And a bit of whimsy

Hope everyone has a good day today.

I had promised a pic of the now POL Grandma chicken and a few others so here goes lol.

Grandma now at POL. Slight cross beak and I think she is split wing as well.

Victoria the Silver Duckwing beardless EE. She did the egg squat yesterday. Wondering what color they will be......

Cinders the Dark Brahma and Jasmine the light Brahma. Super neat chickens for sure.

OH and the doll house I am going to make into a nest box set.

Below is the chick brooder I made earlier this year.

Out of service at this time and taking up a lot of space in my workshop.

@Ashdoes What kind of incubator do you have now? If you're looking for a thermometor, you might try a hygrometer. I've used the CALIBER IV DIGITAL HYGROMETER. This particular one will record the low and the high temp and humidity. It might not solve the fried eggs problem but would at least let you know the temps being reached. There's another model I have used as well but can't find it atm.

It's the Hovabator Genesis. The problem is switching from the turner to the bottom for hatch. I have to lower the temp while they're in the turner, because they're higher and it's hotter..but at hatch we can't get the temp up while they're down in the bottom. It's literally 21 days of hands on, checking every few hours to make sure they're ok. It's making me crazy. I'm just going to use my broody, and it's only because my egg customers love the blue and green eggs.
Edited to add...thank you for the link :)

Have you heard of anyone else with that problem? I can try looking around for a solution. No guarantees though. Sounds painstaking!

I saw you had Cream Legbars and I imagine you're trying to hatch them out, can't blame you as I'd be doing the same. I'd love to get one or two of them! I placed an order to expand my flock and was sooooo tempted to order some but once I realized the price ($47ea!!!), forget it. I have two EE that lay green, hoping the one I ordered will lay blue, if not, you might be hearing from me :) I have an old school incubator that I borrowed from my uncle a long time ago that works decent, no auto turner but I've still had successfull hatches.

No problem on the link.

We hatched Creams for two years, but gave up on them and their horrible genetics. Not enough diversity, and had two of the meanest Roos ever. I have 8 Cream hens left, and just hatch their Cochin mixes for green eggs. Now we have Swedish Flower Hens we're growing out, and hoping their Roos are much nicer.
I was looking to order the super blue layers, but can't find any I like right now. Well just wait it out, and hatch more Swedish in a couple months.
I might have to stop using the turner in our incubator, so I only have to adjust the temp once. We'll see.

Doesnt the genisis have a fan in it? You shouldnt have to adjust the heat in it at all when taking out the turner as the fan still circulates the heat. This is the 12volt digital version right?

Hello, other new posters!

Seems like a lot of people are trying to get rid of their roosters lately - is this a common thing with chicken owners? Yesterday, our neighbor tried to give their rooster to my dad (along with a random peacock that showed up at their house). I didn't even know they had a rooster or the number of chickens/turkeys they had. They're 30+ birds are so quiet compared to my 10 loudmouths! I guess they had a menagerie over there, but for some reason didn't want the single rooster in the flock.

I kinda feel bad for roosters, especially when reading a majority of the posts here about how you "have" to kill them the minute they look cross eyed at you. I hope everyone finds a home or gets put to good use for y'all.

Yep, roosters get a bad rap, mostly because those in the city can't have roosters, only hens. Also, if you are not in need of fertilized eggs, no rooster is needed in the flock, as most people keep them in a safe area these days.

OK, so today is National Fried Chicken Day!! http://www.al.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/07/national_fried_chicken_day_cel.html I was out anyway and heard this on the radio, King Soopers advertising an 8 piece for $3.99. Since it's cloudy, cool, rainy/drizzly I figured why not? I stopped at a new KS sooper center that opened nearby and bought one. I'm eating it right now as I type. I normally don't care for chain grocer's fried chicken as it's normally over cooked and dry dry dry. But this is actually tender and juicy! Great choice! YUM

Hope y'all are having a semi-spectacular day. Nice break from the heat of late. I'm back to work tomorrow and dreading it... thinking about calling in and extending one (or two?!) more day(s)... Won't make going back any easier

<sigh> ready to retire!
Sounds yummmyyyyy!!!

Wow, nice reuse!!!!!

Raining and foggy here, downright chilly! But love the green!!!

Yes it is, and does have a fan. That's why I'm confused on how to fix it. It's way colder in the bottom than the top.

My best advise without looking at it would be to set it on a towel for insulation and set it in a room with a stable temperature. Before making my two home made wine cooler incubators i had barrowed a genisis and found it to work great. I did set it on a towel though. It held temp great. The fan should never shut off. Just the heating element. It should cycle on and off to maintain temp. If the fan is cycling on and off then it sounds like the unit is wired backwards. I can take a look at it if you are in colorado springs sometime.
