I keep getting asked if I'm going to breed my 2 barnyard mixes, so that's been making me think I need to get a couple more Polish to diversify their genetics. I'm kinda glad that Ideal is sold out of them! LOL

Meat birds aren't kept very long before heading to be butchered, correct? Our neighbor had about 20 and it seems like he processed them pretty soon after he got them. Aren't they the kind of chickens that have problems if you try to keep them as pets?
 
Ideal has 25 Cornish Rocks at $10.75 shipping, not bad, but not available til September.

Yep, I am also doing a dual purpose bird, or at least that is what I am trying to do with my Rocky Tops. I do need to add a heavier bird into the mix, am thinking hard on Cornish or something similar. Thought I wanted to add Breese this last spring, but lots of folks are having trouble with fertility. Will see what I come up with next spring....
 
Yes Uzi they are the kind that need to be processed before 12 weeks or they start suffering.
Dual purpose chickens take a long time to mature and are kept for egg laying with providing a decent amount of meat when done with laying. Like BO's for example.

I am not finding the cornish special on Ideal's site. (I must be looking in the wrong spots lol.)

Weird it is where I went and comes up with the price of 2.06 each for 25-49 birds.

I tried putting in a quantity and it comes to over 50 dollars. Just plain odd.

Go to the check out, and put in your zip code then hit update..... should show you the total price, I think shipping is included in the actual price per bird, as all it showed me on the order page was a $7 small order fee and something else, can't recall now.... total was just over $ 10.
 
Ha ha I called today because I tried to place my rare breed order online yesterday and it didn't go through. Anyways, when I called they had the specially mix or something which can include every bird they off and the rare breed. We try to do the same thing with dual production. It always seems like we have way more roosters tho, so we haven't butchered in hens yet. Once we get going, I incubate the eggs our hens hatch so most of them end up being a barnyard mix. I enjoy the different colors and variations we get from that. Seems like Ideal is quite a bit cheaper than other hatcheries. My chicks will be here Friday and my hatching eggs will be here Thursday! Yay!
