I'm not sure if anyone is interested. But there is an overhang special right now for a rare breed assortment. They are just $1.10 per chick. That's straight run of course. I've included the link. I was exciting to see this deal and ordered some! Unfortunately, it's a minimum of 25.

UUUGGGGHHHHH You are playing to my crazy chicken math addiction and my empty brooder sitting in my workshop.

That is a fantastic deal on chicks!

Their website also has bantams special running. If you order less than 25 they are 2.84 each but 25 or more they are only a dollar each. HOLY COW!!! Feather legged bantams are 1.10 for 25 or more too. MAN that makes me want to order some right now!!!

Must resist since I am overstocked as it is. BUT WHAT A DEAL!!!!!

Thank you Suncatcher. The yard has taken many years to get going and I think it is nice to come home to now.

Quote: I have had good luck with my GQF Hovabator table top, knock on wood, my last hatch's have declined, but beginning this season I had 90 percent hatch with it. I agree fan should always be running, no matter the temp. Wonder if you could place it in a warmer room and see if it keeps its temp throughout?????

That is a tempting deal on chicks!!!!

I know! I couldn't pass it up. Especially for rare breeds.

You will have to let us know what you get for sure.
Pictures are always welcome on here too.

My son just got home from work and of course he is an enabler so told me "so get some". LOL I think Hubby would be less than happy with MORE chickens.
Dang tempting for sure though.

I will keep these mid summer deals in mind for the future though.

Do they tell you what breeds you may get? I've noticed in a couple other sites that do assorted specials, they never say what breeds so it's a surprise. I wish I could get some more but I wouldn't know where to put them! My dad was telling me our neighbor had a bunch of completely black hens, so I'm hoping he might want to get rid of 1 or 2. Not getting my hopes up since my quest for any all black hens have been failures so far.

Ash, I'd offer to let you borrow my Brinsea but it's the mini & only does 7 eggs at a time. :/

Thank you :) as if I need more right now anyways. Lol.
We've lucked out and not had any Mareks related deaths, so I'm feeling pretty good about our flock being the correct size. I have two broodies right now, crazy Cochins, and am trying to break them. We'll see how long it takes. Last time this splash girl took two days in the baby pen, the outdoor pen we added to the barn...just dirt, no where to huddle up and brood.
I am hating this weird cold snap...I wore long sleeve yesterday! We tried to take the kids hiking on Monday, and had to go to the movies instead. Is it really July?

There's a list of what you may get but they don't say what you are going to get specifically. I don't think they mark the chicks either, so I won't really know what they are until they are old enough and have their markings. I am hoping for a good variety. I don't really care to have a specific breed. Our last flock started as barred rocks and ended with Rhode Island reds. I just hope to have a nice rooster because our 2 kids like to go back with them. It's nice not to worry about a crazy rooster.

The specials are still showing on Ideal's site. VERY tempting to order the bantam special lol. DH would have a fit. I told him about the special last night and got the look.

I was surprised that meat birds are as much as laying hens in most hatcheries. I am not sure how they can justify that cost for them. I remember when I got my first layers after moving back to town the feed store had meat birds for 50 cents each. It was only 5 years ago too.

I will probably stick to buying the dual purpose birds and letting the hens lay for a couple years then processing them.

Not allowed to process them at home where I live so that means taking them and paying to have it done.

(unless I just do it in my kitchen a couple at a time)
