Thank you! With all the ups and downs, I can't believe she made it from fertilized egg to laying her own eggs with me. I had been feeling like a crappy owner last night because I think Odysseus's feathers are getting worse instead of better. Now, I feel like a pretty okay owner.
Hey gang, been a minute since I posted have been super busy packing. As most of you know we were told we needed to be out by the end of this month, well that has now changed. We have been given until the end of October, what a relief. So we have been making trip to Englewood and continuing to look, but the housing market is brutal right now.
Anyway, so the gang is doing well we have four young cockerels segregated in the enclosed run and small coop while Rocco, the egg layers and the young pullets free range all day. The gang is growing so fast already. We gave the chicks that Mamcita our broody Cornish hatched to PC and she laid an egg that day. Squarely cementing her pecking order within her flock again. We out the young cockerel in the run after they had effectively made themselves two flocks. The young pullets were following around the young roo's rather than dad. So we need them to follow their dad's flock.
Free to a good home, you must be able to come and pick up. If no one wants they are being fattened up for the stew pots!
Alpha roo - Buff Orph x Easter Egger - he is going to be pretty he has black tail feathers coming in and love the puff/muff of his cheeks. He is a good little roo so far, calls the girls for treats and such.
Buff Orph x Delaware - I must warn you he if fairly aggressive, has broken my skin twice with a peck and he holds on.
The other two we are not sure of their crosses....
Our babies are getting big here are a couple pics of the more pretty feathered/cute girls.
Some of our crosses seem big for 12 weeks old. The white Delaware and Bo cross and the really pretty blackish tail.
Hope everyone is doing well and having a good summer. We have no garden this year :-(.
@Percheron chick post some pics of those cute babies that you got, please.

That's great that you aren't in a rush to move now. That is the worst to do, especially when you have to find a place that will work for you and your animals.
Uzi,
Congrats on that first egg from her. Kinda makes it all worth it.
Cochix,
I too am glad you have a little more time before the big move.
I certainly hope you can find a good place for your family (critters included). Wish I had more room in my coop. Winter is right around the corner and my own overcrowding can be an issue here.
Meant to post as well that Victoria's egg was a double yolker as was the next one. Hoping she gets that straightened out soon. No need for her to lay ostrich size eggs. Poor girl.
Alright, I know I would probably get better answers from the sick help forum but want to post something real quick.
My chicks are about a week old. Monday night one was looking not right. Last year I had real bad luck with what seemed like any chick I got. I think in total it was 5 of them that died on me. All different places of purchase, all different batches and all exhibited the same behavior heavy breathing and a rasp. I thought maybe cocci so treated the surviving one with powder amprolium and it lived. Flash forward to Monday and I see those same signs in one of my new chicks. I ended up treating the water with the medication and Tuesday morning she's breathing normal and has since. Never really saw any bloody stool in any of them, this year or last.
Here are a few YouTube videos. Anything that looks like cocci? Something else. Worrying too much?
Could there be something in the straw that is irritating the lungs? Any kind of fungus hiding in the straw bale or lots of dust?
The only thing I can think of is there had to be some kind of infection that cleared up quickly with the antibiotic.
Man they are so delicate with the tiny lungs. The poops being normal is great news. Not sure what would cause it in one and not the others though. Weird just weird.
I have treated chicken cold type symptoms with Duramycin 10. You mix it by the gallon or pint and replace their drinking water with the water/Duramycin. I bought mine off Ebay.

I have no idea. It seems like it could be the straw or even the box since I re used the box. Doesn't seem dusty. It's so strange. The last time it did seem like it started with one and then the others eventually started showing the same symptoms a day or two later.

Of course you have a lot of ventilation above them. Wondering if there is a contaminant in the cardboard that is still letting off fumes of some sort.
OH that made me think to ask....
Where is the brooder being kept?
Thinking if it is near any sort of water heater or washing machine or place where any chemicals are used or stored etc.......
The weakest would show symptoms first of course. I know my dog sneezes up a storm if I use Downy fabric softener.
