Colorado

Got everything ready for the chick invasion tomorrow......
1. Extra waterer in place, full, with a little vinegar and molasses added. (extra sugar and deals with pasty butt)
2. Extra feeder in place, and full
3. Will put the older chicks into the brooder addition for a couple of hours. Beth has a Dr appointment tomorrow afternoon, so I will pick up the chicks at the PO on the way home from work, get them in the brooder, go to the Dr appointment, and deal with integration after we get back home. It shouldn't be too much of a problem, and the older chicks are only 1 1/2 weeks old, and they will be WAY outnumbered....

Aww, congrats on the new additions. I am sure there won't be any problems, one of mine I am sure is a week older then the others. She pecks a little but mostly looks after the other two.

Thanks. We just figured that we would shut the older ones into the addition while we were gone, then put them together later so we could deal with any issues that arose. My wife is still a little anxious about the additions...... I keep telling her, "Look, its not like I haven't had chickens before, it's just been a few years....."

Hi fellow coloradians!
I posted earlier about trying to talk to my HOA and it not going well. We currently have nothing in the HOA about farm animals. My husband and I have now seen 2 lawyers and both reviews all of the convenants and said we should be legally able to have chickens. Anyway... we have now been given a verbal no from the board of directors, we asked for that in writing but haven't heard back....
So I contacted Bill Vogrin from the Gazette who writes the Side Streets columns. He wants to do a story on us!!!! I am soo excited, he has asked to speak to the Board of directors personally. I am really hoping this might put some pressure on the BOD to give us permission.
We'll see! Wendy

also I have been reading CIty Chicks by Patricia Foreman and it is SOOOO interesting! I can't wait to try using my chickens in my garden. Has anyone else read this book? I don't think I will try until Aug/Sept when my plants are quite tall and established, but I sit in bed and think of ways to rotate the beds, build tunnels, chicken portals, ect....

(Here come a rant

. FYI, I am NOT a supporter of Home Owners Associations at all)

HOAs are one of the reasons I live out in the sticks where I do. It's my home, my land, we already have zoning laws in place. If I have a broken down car that I am slowly fixing, it's none of my neighbor's business, nor is it mine if my neighbor chooses to have an ugly shed. If one of my neighbors decides to have a donkey, (which happened) and it was EXTREEMLY noisy, you go over and talk with him, Funny, he still has it and it is much quieter. I am pretty sure my neighbor to the back of me won't like the fact that I will have several roosters until October. Oh well, you live in the country. Get over it.( and their house is an ugly pink stucco that I hate, but that's their choice, not mine)

Living in the country isn't for everyone, the same as living in the city isn't for me.

Anyway, good luck with your HOA. (Grrr) I hope you are able to raise the chickens you desire in accordance with the law.

OK, I'm done. Back to your regular programming.......

I wish you luck with all that, the news picking up the story should help put pressure on the BOD. I am having problems with my HOA (other problems) so I am in an anti HOA mood today.
