How's he holding up? If I were up there closer, I'd volunteer my vehicle to help move stuff for him. But I'm too far away to get to him in time to help. My prayers are with him and everyone else affected. It's so hot and dry this year that it can happen to any of us at any moment.

the high park fire shifted today and is moving south...its about 1/2 mile from the inlaws and burning STRONG. My father in law is hanging out as close as they will let him and he said that some houses were catching fire and burning to the ground in 15 mins.

the fire is now 1/4 mile away....
they got pics and stuff out of the house but the inlaws have built it by themselves and have worked on it for the last 7 yrs. Its their dream home.

thank you. if needed we have 5 diff vehicles that can be up there in 30 mins or less, but they have 14 closed and you can't get close. The only reason my father in law hasn't gotten kicked out is because they are so busy and can't see him on the rock out crop he's hanging out on

I have some silkies and bantam cochins available locally, Arvada, Golden, Denver West area. Am happy to meet at the Golden Feed Mill sometime this weekend, email me if interested.
Cochins are all male in black mottled or mille fleur. Silkies are variety of off-colors, blue, splash, partridge, porcelain--these are all pet quality as they don't fit into my breeding program due to disqualifications per toes, beak, feather color. First pic shows the silkie pullets $15 each.

Mottled Bantam cochins (cockerels) $5 each or will work out something for group. Silkies too young to tell gender $8 ea

Mostly cockerel silkies, couple too young for certain $8 ea

2 Mille fleur cockerels $5 ea, both just learning to crow

the high here for tomorrow is supposed to be 102!
I'm going to a wedding in fairplay, so my mother in law is going to be here with the kids and i just had to give her more instructions for the chickens then i had to give for the kids! lol.
Today i ended up having to hose the run down and hose the chickens a bit too (they were not happy with that) because they were getting so hot. I had ice in their water as well.
I hope they do ok while we're gone. I won't be back till sun around noon. The kids spent a wk with the inlaws while the hubby and i were in mexico so i'm not worried about leaving them.

Quote: No, we are good. Nice green weeds have grown in the areas that were cleared of dead grass. Does almost as good as if there was nothing there.
Most grass fires in our area are started by Ft Carson and their training. When we are under severe fire restrictions, they generally don't use flares and tracers, which start fires. And our local vol. fire department are on high alert, as well as Ft Carson Fire department. Between us and them, are three roads, and we have two narrower fire break lines. We should be OK. No grass fires yet this season.
