Colorado

Ok, 80% sure that Snowi is going broody. Is there anyone out there in the Springs area that I could buy and pick up a six to eight hatching eggs from once I am 100% sure? I'd prefer Rocks, Orpingtons, or Sussex. Barnyard mixes could be cool too.

. PM me if you could please!
Coloradogal- I LOVE your setup with the pappasan chair. Makes me wish I could find one on Craigslist! I'm probably going to need something like it soon.

I had a great hatch rate with my eggs I just incubated. They were RIRs but I gave my RIRs to my brother so now still have the RIR roo but buff orphingtons and white leghorns for hens. If you find no takers, you can come grab some from me. I'll charge you the normal price I sell my eggs for... so for 6 it would by $1.50. They will be mutts though so perhaps someone here will have some purebreed eggs instead.

It was fun watching them go into the coop tonight. They didn't know where to go or in what order to perch. My one little silkie and her phoenix chick have once again found a corner to hide in to sleep. The phoenix chick is still small enough to hide under her feathers. It's adorable. Even at 3 months old, they are still very, very, very tiny. Thus the need I have for the papasan. Sometimes the bigger chicks from the established flock are little peckers. :)

Maybe I am just worrying too much but my EE would not eat dry mealworms tonight. That is odd because they always devour them. She ate the live meal worm but they all seam a bit stressed lately, her more so then the others. She also has had increasingly watery poops, tonight's was just water and some grass strands. I don't think today was too hot for them?

I dont know how hot it was up there but it has been much cooler down here. I would say not the heat, but maybe come thing else. Have you checked her crop? That will tell you if she has been eating period. Or she could have a blockage... I am not the best at diagnosing but you should probably post in the diseases/injuries section.

I dont want to scare you but the last time I had a hen stop eating with diarrhea it turned out to be sour crop. There were some underlying issues that were discovered as a result but it could be a minor thing or a major thing. Only way to know is to give her a through check up and post the details for the knowledgable masses.

This makes me so furious. Evidentally, a homeowner who had to flee decided to leave the chickens behind. When he gets back, he finds a note about removing one dead chicken and feeding and watering the rest. What a jerk. It makes me so sad because rather than at least open the gate to give them a chance to fly away, he locks them in. Then the reported says, 'its not the chicken or the coop that was important', but the note left behind.

I am so ticked at this jerk. So its ok to leave your chickens behind to burn?

I'm sure the Montana ff's really wanted to say, '*******, we worked to save your home for your chickens...and made sure we at least fed them and watered them after.' What an asswipe.
I would like to chime in here......I agree with the rush out..but YES...at lease open the gates/coops and give the girls a chance!!! That's what the homeowner did....no one locked them in!!

What a great idea with the papasan chair!

Last night when I got home from work my 10 week old turkey tom was super lethargic. Head droopy, walking really slow, not eating. Of course I got right on BYC. Seeing as it was too late for the feed store, I started dosing with cayenne. Made a slurry with it and used an eyedropper to get it into his mouth. Got in maybe a couple of teaspoon (had to quit when he shook his head and it went in my eye! - next time - goggles) Put cayenne on food and extra ACV in water.

He seems better this morning. Eating on his own, less droopy. Sent husband to feed store to diagnose. I couldn't decide between blackhead and cocci. Feed store guy says blackhead is rare here, thinks cocci. Sold husband some Durvet. Feed store guy also says to put hydrogen peroxide in the water for 3 days before using the Durvet.

Just curious as to why the H2O2? Anyone ever heard of this method? Any other help for my Tom?

****!! i went into my shed and found that the birdseed bag was chewed on by a mouse! I keep my chicken feed/scratch, birdseed, grass seed, etc etc in there. What a pain in the butt this is going to be.....
