Colorado

Yay! My incubator arrived in the mail today!!!! DH only told me what he got me because he didn't think it would arrive before Christmas. Now DS is having a blast with the box they shipped in. Is big enough to be his little fort. DH even cut a window into it for him.

Chicken Little,

! It's a cute name. And if you decide to make him a house chicken you will defiantly need some manly diapers for him!

I'm just happy he has found a good home.

I whipped one up for him...there are some things I will tweak on the next one for sure but he sure didnt mind me putting it on him or wearing it. <3 I think he is already falling in love with us...he went over and sat in the hubbies lap for a good while!

He is so fluffy that you can hardly see it.

That is too cute! Chicken Little must feel like he landed in Oz and be loving it! He has only been in the house twice with us, both times for photo shoots. I also think its hilarious how he is buttering up your DH!

Our silkie Roxie lived in the house most of her life, not at my house though. At my DH's Ex's. When they did finally put her out, they didn't construct a decent coop and she was eaten about a week later. I'd LOVE a house silkie, but with 3 cats, 2 dogs and 1 we routinely house sit, I have to keep my chix chix outside.

Chicken little is soooooo cute! Ours was white. I think they just look like they come right out of a Dr. Suess book! Love them! When we have more land I will certainly add a Silkie to our flock (again) \. Meanwhile back at the Ranch (or tiny house in the burbs in our case) My girls have found a hidey-hole on the deck. They are cracking me up. I really wish my EE would lay her first egg. I dreamed last night it was purple. LOL yes, I dream of chickens. I must have lost my ever-lovin'

Off to put together the cheesecake for tomorrow night. My Christmas dream came true, my deployed son is coming home tonight. I get ONE last year of all my kids before the older one deploys this year and the middle one redeploys.

I leave you today with this cute picture of my ladies in a box.

shipped eggs dont yield very high hatch rates. Shipping is so rough. IMO buying chicks is the best use of $$ then later u can hatch out yr own eggs. Or purchasing adult birds because u know exactly what u r getting. Coming up in January is the Natl Western Stock show which has a poultry show of birds both utilitarian & fancy breeds. Theres also several poultry clubs in Colorado whose breeders raise different types of fowl.

Been on vacation for a couple weeks so I'm doing some catching up here. I've gotten through half the posts and will continue on later.
would she be OK alone until I got others? Correct me if I am wrong but don't they mate for life? Maybe another female would suffice?
She's been alone for a few months now and seems like her normal self. The first week her mate was killed she was sad and didn't eat much but she's normal now. I don't know enough to know if they mate for life but I know they are faithful when they do have a mate.
I'm not sure if they're still available, but I have a friend who is helping to find 2 male ducks a new home. I could look into it again if you'd want.
I'm going out of business with ducks. They weren't for me. Too messy and not docile enough even though we raised from chicks.
So I finished the coop, just in time for another snow. On the other hand I now have time to keep up with the forum, I was laid off today. All contractors were...
Good luck job hunting.
Seems like it'd be simpler to just get Narragansetts this year, getting the BRs can wait for another time. Count me in for just the Narragansetts plz thx

Also thinking I should look locally for some good RIRs, does anyone know of a breeder in the front range area?
There is a guy in bailey that's all he raises. I keep hearing different people recommend him. However, I don't know if he breeds for quality or just breeding what he has. I don't have personal experience. hardwickhatchery.com
Nice variety, we had the same thought, only problem is deciding which you like best

We may be rehoming a few of our brahmas and red stars, about three months old if you're interested.
Honestly my favorite are red stars. They are they most docile of all the chickens I've had.

Soy Sauce Chicken made with Windy Ridge American Dominique chicken thighs. Que Bueno!
Gosh this looks delicious.
