oh the wind is terrible here!! how I wish for a warm 80 degree day right about now!

Hi Wendy, I have talked to you on your meat chickens thread and followed it. It was about 82* today and we are wishing for cooler weather. Trees are starting to bud. Bad news for us, our coldest temps. are in Feb. The horses are sweating just standing around, yes most of them get a good winter coat. So that is our day in Florida.

Wanted to introduce myself, my name is Jeni and we live in arvada. We have 2 showgirls, a black silkie, a sultan, a red bourbon, a bronze and a few serama in the house. We also just started getting rabbits to breed for meat.
I was wondering if anyone might know a good place to get hatching eggs, I built my own incubator back in october and have managed to hatch 1 quail out of 5 batches of eggs, about 30 eggs. I replaced my water heater thermostat with a wafer one and would like to try local eggs, since I keep reading about altitude being a problem with shipped eggs.
I'd be interested in quail and/or chicken eggs, I don't want to give up hatching yet. My last egg pipped but didn't hatch, so I know I'm close.
Anyway, nice to meet you all and look forward to chatting some more!

My eggs are all fertile and I'd be willing to sell you some. They'd all be mutts, so I'd only sell them for the regular eating price $4/dz. All I need is some warning so I can make sure not to refrigerate them. I'll be in town several times for the stock show, and my husband works in Denver. I have been to Florida in September, it is not the happiest place to be that time of year and even though it may be better in January, I will wish you some snow, or at least cold rain. For your poor sweating horses.

Are you going to be at the stock show either/both days of the poultry show? My son's trip home was postponed until next weekend, so since I'll be bringing him back up to Denver Sunday the 20th I'm probably going to go that afternoon.

No, it's not. Hotter than heck in both August and September and no rain unless we get a hurricane. What's bad is most of my horses get a 1.5 to 2 inch winter coat. I know not much compared to ya'll. But with it getting into the 90*s on some days that is hard on them. To me the best times to come to Florida is April to early May, and November and December. Winter is our best time to ride. I'm interested in starting a calico cochin pen..and therefore am looking for mille fleur or mottled cochins. Can anyone going to the stock show let me know if they see either of those varieties there? I've already corresponded with Shylee about getting some from her.
