Colorado

So my wife said if I could sell some of my ak 47 stuff I can buy an incubator... I can't wait! I've been reading reviews and checking prices. The one I think I want is the farm innovators 4200. It's on Amazon for $129.94 with free shipping. Unless any one knows where I can get it locally for a similar price? Or if someone wants to recommend a different model?

Big R in Pueblo has it for $20 more.

Do you know what % tax they charge down there? I hate waiting for things to come in the mail I may just go get it.. Lol

Well since I just bought one because my shipped one failed and I had eggs on the way, I can tell you that the exact amount of the purchase was $161.09.

HI Pozees,

I like the looks and the stuff I have read about Sussex but, willing to try any of the beginner breeds.

I stopped by the Colorado Springs free mulch pile on the way home from work yesterday and picked up 4 more large bags of mulch. When i say large, each of them ends up being around 100 lbs..... The entire flock management area is now covered in a layer of mulch! Way happy about this. less dust, less mud, and it looks nice too!

And then to top of the evening, Hanover girls (a 1A school, very small) beat Mesa Ridge girls JV (I think a 4A school) by 20 points! Hannah only ended up with 2 fouls and a bruised elbow. She got 2 points, 5 rebounds, an assist, and forced 3 turnovers. Not bad.

Just got back from Big R... Every time I see someone in the chicken isle I want to tell them about BYC.. But then I realize most people aren't chicken crazy and retreat into my shell... Any way, I found out the brands they sell. They have 2 brands and they are exactly the same price: $55.99. The auto turners for these have the same price as well: 49.99. I took a picture of each box for you.

Before I bought my Brinsea, I went to Big R and was talked out of their forced air incubators by a man there. he spoke little english but was emphatic that on the farm he works at, they tried still air and it just doesn't work. he was very animated and absolutely sure. I went home and researched a little more and still air does not work so well, not only here but in other parts of the country. I think Wendel or Pozees mentioned that it creates temperature gradients.

Lost my old rooster this afternoon. He was fine this morning, but I found him just before "bed check". No blood, no sign of struggles, considering I adopted a young roo this past summer that turned out to be the spittin' image of him. They got along well. Still, kinda sad. At least it was a nice warm day for him to go to sleep.

Sorry for your loss.

I finally have an afternoon completely free!!!!!

If the weather stays nice today, I think I will start the conversion on the small coop in pen #4. Got to add some nest boxes so I can use it as a second breeding pen. Abe will have to step it up in doing his duties!

Grant Family Farm Chickens: I suspect these would be production chickens so may have lots of health concerns along with social anxiety. Do we know how they were caged? Did they even see the sun? I suspect they are NPIP. If anyone goes up or who would like a ride along, I can go. I can't drive tomorrow as my son has dibs on my vehicle.

I found my frizzle rooster beat up two days ago. Today is the first day he has eaten on his own. I've had to hand feed him because his one eye was closed and the other barely open. He'll be inside for a while I suspect. I do not know who the offender is or even if there was an offender.

I think one of the chicks I kept from the last batch is a silkie mix. It's feathers are different. The dominique cross is also half the size of the other so am wondering if one of the frizzle roosters are the daddy. So that makes me happy as I'm starting to get some of the variety I've been so long dreaming of.
