I really want to go to the swap but I can't. :/ DH scheduled us to get our taxes done up tomorrow. Taxes trump chicken fever, unfortunately. If anyone happens to run into someone who sells hatching eggs, please let me know! I want as many options as possible!

hello to those in Colorado, Im in the springs and got my first flock back in August... it's a lot different and smaller then my grandmothers flock, but they are still very fun. i wanted to know about the small animal swap something/event some of you are speaking of. i have a leghorn (i think that's what she is) that is about five months old but she is small and not laying yet. i do not want to give up on her just yet. but i would like to see an event like this just to see how it works. is there a website about the swap, so i can get info and locations?

Hello and welcome! There are several small animal swaps in state of Colorado. One is in the Denver area (I think), and there is one at the sale barn in Calhan, east of Colorado Springs. In the fall I saw one advertised on Woodman Rd, east of the springs, I think that one was advertised on CL.

Shed walls have supposedly been on the way for hours, still not here, can't get Guillermo to answer now to tell me whether they are on the way or not. We started laying out the skids and discovered they are warping, love that pressure treated lumber (not), as are the outer walls of the floor. Bob is refusing to try and get them put together to make a solid floor. IF the walls show up this evening, which I am beginning to doubt, I told him I would buy some redwood 4x4s to use as skids, he thinks they still won't marry correctly. I think they can be screwed straighter and then connected properly. Adam7 if you are reading this, can you offer an opinion on whether that will work?

If the walls don't show, I will insist on a full and immediate refund and go to plan B, which right now I'm wishing I had done a week ago when he originally failed to deliver on time. I'm just disgusted.

At least my son is here for the weekend, either way it's great to see him. And the eggs are developing well. Candled briefly this morning, saw more than half with evident blood vessel development, a few that are probably duds, too clear to believe they will become chicks, and the rest I'm on the fence about. As with most things, time will tell

Not sure if you remember but when you first told me about who was building your shed kit I told you he specializes in selling cull. The problems you are experiencing is in direct correlation with that. Cull wood is wood he bought at a deep discount because it is warped or twisted. Most likely it showed up warped. Did you get a chance to look at it when it arrived? Was it straight then? Personally I have never had an issue with lumber warping on me unless it was stacked sloppily where gravity makes it want to warp or it has been sitting outside for months on end. Either way I would try to get a refund and/or new lumber from the guy. It's very difficult to build (correctly) with warped wood.

That being said, you can either get red wood or treated for the skids. I usually use treated as it is cheaper. Also redwood is much softer and I feel isn't as durable as treated.

Now as far as mating the skids to the floor framing. Would straight skids remedy the issue or is the floor framing warped as well? You can always just set the skids and not attach them to the floor framing for a few months and see if gravity can help straighten out the framing. Then attach. The weight of the shed should b plenty that it shouldn't want to move. In severe cases I have had to use ratchet straps(the ratcheting kind not motorcycle tie downs) to tighten warped wood together as well. If you do that I still recommend leaving the wood strapped together for at least a few weeks to allow the wood to retain a "memory" of the correct shape. Then attach.

Any way you do it means extra work. You can always just pour a concrete slab and set the shed right on it then you don't need skids. Again though that is more work(and more money).

Snap a few pictures of the problem areas and I can try to be more specific.

Indeed. No walls. No calls returned. LM that I want a full and immediate refund. We shall see. I am furious. Will flag every ad I see him post on CL, and will report to the BBB.

We are deciding which path forward has the likeliest chance of success. Feeling sorry for myself is not as satisfying as seeing a shed go up, I must say. I emailed a local shed builder to see whether he will be able to assist, and if all else fails we will be framing walls ourselves, etc. Bob still doesn't like the way the floor Guillermo built is warping, but that has been our experience with pressure treated lumber the last several years, it is very frustrating. I do not expect the immediate refund I requested/Guillermo promised, but will endeavor to make it difficult for him to do business for the foreseeable future and/or until I get a refund and forge ahead. People who seem contrite are often not. I no longer consider him a nice guy who is bad at customer service, I consider him a crook.

Thanks Adam7, I will snap pics in the morning. Our experience with treated lumber the last few years has been that it is still wet when purchased and it dries unevenly, causing the warping. This is not cull lumber, at least not in name, it is directly from the racks at Lowe's. I bought many 2x6x10 for my raised beds, put rebar on either side or made them into benches for seedlings, and all have warped, even those I painted. Straight skids would partially remedy the issue, but the outer boards of the floor sections (2 12x8) are warping slightly at the corners and that is what has Bob most upset. The skids are put together wrong - IMO - they should be either solid, or two one direction and the third the other, so they look like a pi symbol - we have done posts this way in the past and they stay straight, these are just stacked three 2x4s, nailed and glued, and one is curling up, the other two are bending sideways, one worse than the other - to the eye it seems not so bad until you try to envision attaching an L shaped bracket between it and the floor joist.

Mind you, Bob is fanatic about straight and true, and these are not. I think we could make them work if we had to, he thinks it will be a nightmare and ulcer to do so. There has been some stamping of feet. I suspect you can relate
