Hi All,
I am on day 8 of a test batch of eggs. Out of 4 eggs, I have one growing chick. But now I am worried about what to do with it when it hatches. Do you think I can quickly go buy a day old chick to put in with it so it's not alone?

So you need a chick or two in two weeks... Someone on here may have a hatch going, I can't remember who all is hatching what where, but Elizabeth country corner is a solid alternative. You can look at their schedule and preorder a few chicks. Not sure what breeds they have that week but it should be posted on their website.

Anyone have any recommendations for insomnia? This is the second night in a row I can't sleep. :/

I am almost ready to try that 'sleepy time tea'. I hate tea.

Tht should work. Do you know of some place that will have day olds around your hatch time?

Lat year I bought my chicks from Elizabeth County store, they were great... but it took about an hour 15 minutes to drive there and back. I know the feed store at the corner of Academy/barnes has chicks. That is a ton closer, and I am not going to be picky in getting a chick to keep my little "home hatch" chick company.

Have you ever tried Melatonin? Works like a charm for me. I have never researched whether it is safe to use while pregnant, so you would want to find that out first.

I highly recommend either yoga or tai chi.

You mean the one at Austin Bluffs and Barnes? Colorado Agrifeed? They might sell chicks but I have no clue when they get chicks nor do I really trust them any more. Personally, I would rather drive two hours for something than shop with them again. MHO...

What did they do to you?

Just a general feeling of 'why are you fussing so much they are just a few chickens?' And selling me things that overtly fit my needs but in fact were next to useless on poultry because that's what they have on hand. Specific incident with that second one, I needed to worm my chickens but was new enough to chicken ownership that I didn't know much about it. They sold me 'Pig Swig' which had no dosage listing for poultry and wasn't intended for use on poultry. People do apparently use it but all it does is get rid of large round worms, it doesn't do anything for actually getting rid of all worms or any species other than round. But it was what they had so they sold it to me. I would much rather have been told to go to a different store for something that worked better (and yes, employees at both other stores I go to have done that).

Thanks for the suggestion on tai chi or yoga. DH says he has an old tai chi DVD around somewhere so he is going to hunt it up for me.

Ah, that's too bad. I hate it when people are misleading.

My wife did both of those activities when she was pregnant and it seemed to really help with her sleep. I just wish that my 10 month old could do them so he could fall asleep faster now!
