Well unless some miracle happens, my total hatch is 5 Silkies. I candled and listened to the remaining 6 eggs tonight, 5 are definite no-way, one seems to still be alive, I heard small what might be pipping noises and saw movement, so I boosted the humidity back up (it had gone down to 54%) and left it in the hatcher to see what happens, but I honestly don't expect it to hatch, I just can't discard a still-living egg. Put the 5th hatched into the brooder tonight, it's the porcelain, the others are doing well. The lavender is bigger than all the others, but they really seem to be doing well.
The hatchery pullets are all coming along spectacularly well, feathers are beginning to get long on their wings, some have tails already, some have feathers growing out on their backs, and the leghorns are already trying to make nests in the shavings - little indentations where they were resting, too cute
The Araucanas are growing really fast, and it's finally getting easier to tell them from the Andalusians. The Barred Rocks have enough wing feathers now to see the barring well. My mystery chick remains a mystery - a little blonde bantam of some kind with brown barring on the wings. Tail has begun to emerge and it looks pretty upright. Doing absolutely fine in with the White Leghorns and Buff Orpingtons. I think of it as a pullet, but who knows? Sure am enjoying having chicks again
Later this month or early next month I'll have nice SOP RIR chicks, some from Greathorse here in CO, and eggs from Ron Fogle first week in March, and I am SO hoping for a good hatch, his chicks so far this year have been just lovely, and I would like to have a couple of nice groups of good RIRs in addition to the Speckled Sussex and Brown Leghorns I'm getting late March/early April.
