Well unless some miracle happens, my total hatch is 5 Silkies. I candled and listened to the remaining 6 eggs tonight, 5 are definite no-way, one seems to still be alive, I heard small what might be pipping noises and saw movement, so I boosted the humidity back up (it had gone down to 54%) and left it in the hatcher to see what happens, but I honestly don't expect it to hatch, I just can't discard a still-living egg. Put the 5th hatched into the brooder tonight, it's the porcelain, the others are doing well. The lavender is bigger than all the others, but they really seem to be doing well.

The hatchery pullets are all coming along spectacularly well, feathers are beginning to get long on their wings, some have tails already, some have feathers growing out on their backs, and the leghorns are already trying to make nests in the shavings - little indentations where they were resting, too cute :) The Araucanas are growing really fast, and it's finally getting easier to tell them from the Andalusians. The Barred Rocks have enough wing feathers now to see the barring well. My mystery chick remains a mystery - a little blonde bantam of some kind with brown barring on the wings. Tail has begun to emerge and it looks pretty upright. Doing absolutely fine in with the White Leghorns and Buff Orpingtons. I think of it as a pullet, but who knows? Sure am enjoying having chicks again :)

Later this month or early next month I'll have nice SOP RIR chicks, some from Greathorse here in CO, and eggs from Ron Fogle first week in March, and I am SO hoping for a good hatch, his chicks so far this year have been just lovely, and I would like to have a couple of nice groups of good RIRs in addition to the Speckled Sussex and Brown Leghorns I'm getting late March/early April.

Ummmm... I made stew for dinner tonight. Crock pot easy button. :) Cold as it has been it seemed like the perfect meal. What is everyone else enjoying tonight?

The wife made chicken lasagna. I wrinkled my nose when she told me but it was actually pretty good. Still prefer good old fashioned lasagna over it.

So the wife gave me a firm "no" when I asked to make another incubator.. So I was digging around in the garage to see what I could make it with when I stumbled on a ceiling fan I bought 2 years ago still in the box(was on clearance for 45$ had a remote etc.) any way I took it back to lowes said I couldn't find the receipt and they gave me store credit! $96 to be exact! So I was able to purchase the plywood, latches, piano hinge, door gasket and I still have $25 left in credit. I even splurged a bit and bought some high dollar 3/4" Maple Hardwood plywood. If it doesn't incubate eggs it sure will look sharp!

Now to convince the wife to let me get the heating element and the wafer thermostat...

Edited for spelling.

Thanks for the reply! My sister has a coop with 3 rode island red hens that are about a year old now, do you think if I were to relocate one of my silkie roosters to her coop he would be outcast?
the silkie roo would do fine with the rreds after a couple days of introduction. Its when unfamiliar roos r put together that the fight is on
