Framer has been and gone, his repair looks okay. We started inventory on materials for roof and discovered we have not received enough bundles of shingles to cover the roof. We got 6 bundles, which claim to cover 100 square feet each. The roof is 16' long and each half is (by drawing) 6' 9.5" so nearly 7' - have not actually measured since the roof sheathing is not up yet - but I think we need 3 more bundles, Bob thinks it could turn out to be 4.

We also are short on trim but that is far less critical. I could scream. I will bill all extra materials I have to buy back to Guillermo, but now the trick is to find 3 bundles of matching shingles or trade these 6 in for 9 of something else green. Wind was blowing so hard this afternoon we couldn't really do much anyway, so maybe it is a blessing we had the time to check what was there and compare it to what will be needed before we started. This is getting very disheartening.

This further delay means my chicks will outgrow the bins I have them in before I can get them moved into the shed, so I decided to sell some as 2 week old pullet chicks for $6 if anyone is interested. I have 17 each Barred Rock and Buff Orpington, 8 White Leghorns, 6 Araucanas, and 4 Blue Andalusians. They are all vaccinated against Marek's and coccidiosis, eating non-medicated crumble, feathering nicely and growing quickly, as chicks do.

My 5 Silkie chicks are coming along nicely, thank goodness, I look forward to watching them feather out and hoping at least 2 or 3 are pullets. Time will tell. The lavender is the biggest, and the porcelain the smallest, although that one was last to hatch. The lavender was second to last, it's just a big chick.

Hi......gee I hope you do have enough shingles for your roof. If It does turn out that you need more shingles and are going to sell pullets for certain, I would be interested in a Barred Rock, an Araucana and a Blue Andalusian. I live in Colorado Springs so you're just down the road, plus I can have a nice visit with my daughter, she lives in Pueblo too. Let me know and thank you!

I live in unincorporated weld county. I just have a Lupton address. I'm hoping to get pics of the chicks up tomorrow. We don't have the coop set up yet. Hopefully in the next couple weeks. The coop I have came for free on Craigslist. We just have to get it put back We're going to pick out 3 more chickens in Fort Collins if u wanna go

Hello and welcome/welcome back! You have quite a variety there.....so you can have more than 10 chickens in Fort Lupton....I know the area is fairly rural. Nice brooder box too. Do you have your coop all set up? Would love to see pics of the chicks and your coop!

Hi everyone!! I'm new and introduced myself a month or so ago. I'm in Fort Lupton. I finally got my first baby chicks yesterday. It took them about a month to come in. Love the place in Fort Collins that I got them. They have been awesome. So this is what I got yesterday 9 total. 3 americaunas, 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 barred Plymouth Rock, 1 partridge Plymouth Rock, 1 silver laced Wyandotte , 1golden laced Wyandotte, & 1 blk australorp. I'm in love. So today I called and went back to get 3 more. I got one more golden laced Wyandotte, 1 buff Orpington and 1 speckled Sussex. What's really cool is the lady didn't charge me a dime for the 3 I got today. Random act of kindness is super cool. Does anyone have input about any of the ladies? They seem to be settling in ok. My step dad built me a brooder box. Will have to post a pic.

If you go to the 'breeds' tab near the top of the page I believe all your girls are covered. The BR and RIR's are the only ones we share. They are both great layers and share the top of the pecking order. I've also had them the longest of any in the flock. I'm sure they'll grow up big and fat before you know it. P

It's been a long week. I finally made some time tonight to start working on my new incubator. I put a solid three or so hours into it tonight. I mounted my fan(I repurposed an old humidifier fan) and built the box. Still need to order the thermostat and the heat element. Gonna work on inlaying plexiglass in the door tomorrow. I'm beat.

If someone was looking for Marans, Elizabeth country corner has them. I pick mine up from them on the 1st. They are around $4 a chick.

thanks. The coops on pens 3 and 4 will handle up to 5 adult birds each. The coops on pens 5 and 6 will handle up to 50 new chicks, and about 20 chicks up to about 8 weeks old. at that point they will either be sold, or transferred to the larger coops in pens 1 and 2, which will hold up to 20 mature birds each. Pens 1 and 2 are primarily for growing out the birds we will be processing and evaluation. I only plan on hatching out enough to sell to those who want chicks, and enough cockerels that I can choose out one or two good ones for next year's breeding. I only want to keep an additional 10 pullets from this years hatch.

Apparently we needed to make the shed take a bit longer LOL. Bob has now decided a cupola is a must. I know, easier now than later, and we can just cut the hole and frame it in and cover the hole after the roof is on. I'm sold. I know it's the best way to ventilate a peaked roof, and I'm on board. We have an old wooden louvered door that he wants to use, which seems like a great idea, just looking for advice if anyone has any. Seems like it should be fairly simple but I'm sure there are pitfalls. Framing the hole and building the box part I am pretty sure we can handle, but I'm clueless on how to build the roof part - they look like 4 triangles, is that all it is? I am sure Bob can figure it out, just thought I'd ask in case someone has built one and can help us avoid pitfalls.
