:yesss:  found this http://www.larimer.org/planning/planning/Animal/animal_regulations_chickens.htm covers backyard chickens.
I would think the County overrides the city. I'll have to keep checking on that one though.
ok, now i'm confused. lol. i found a city ordinence for loveland that basically said you could have as many hens as you like. a rooster is allowed....all they need is proper care and proper home. i don't have the link because my laptop is being repaired..... this one says only 6 hens allowed in larimer country, no roosters. I'm not sure which is right, but i currently have 7 hens and there are 11 chicks in my brooder :/

Just got a message from them (missed the call). City ordinances override county(like wsmith said).

You can have as many as many hens + roosters in Loveland?!?!? OK I'm selling my house and moving! LOL!

Ok, so I was able to view it. The one online was updated in june 2011... it basically says that you need to be able to maintain proper care of any animals on the property, make sure there are no health concerns being caused and says that they can not become a nusciancei n one section then in the next it talks about the numbers you can have and referes you back to the previous section. Lol. So as long as you care for them and the neighbors don't get bothered there are no limits :)

Soooo, I think I have a cuckoo marans roo that has flown under the radar for ohhh, I don't know, 10 months. They look so close to the females and I've never heard him crow but he does have sizeable spurs. Now I have to see how many of the others, that aren't laying, are indeed roos and not hens. So now I wonder if that could explain the difference I have seen in some of the chicks. He is usually only with the cuckoo marans he broodered with. So I wonder now if the reason so many of my marans eggs look like marans isbecause they are pure marans and not just a cross between black marans.

I have marans crosses that were hatched yesterday. $6 a chick or 3 for $15. I also have some older ones but am waiting to see how they feather out first. So far, the older guys are definitely silkie mixes as their feathers are beautiful in texture. That is what I'm seeking in my landrace flock.

Margie- I have another handsome roo like your handsome man, if you are interested. =) If not, I'm tempted to keep him and the other roo and use them as the next generation.

So far, my foundation flock is cuckoo and black marans with easter eggers... the second generation is silkie and frizzle. The third, I hope will be a few more generations of the starting flock. I'll add to genetics, I hope, by the ones coming in from Duane.

Ohhh, in about another 2- 3 months, I'll be looking for homes for my older hens. I understand chicken math and of the babies I keep, I have to find homes for some of the older ( under a year) ones. I suspect by May/June I'll have more of an idea.

Ok... I might be about to buy a chick from big r....any one have any guesses as to what they are?
My wife was very tempted as well, but she refrained due to the 12 eggs in your incubator at the moment. My kids on the other hand are DYING to go and look at them. They just know that I will cave and get a couple more. My wife did not get any pics of them, but says there are a lot of little tan ones, that will probably be BO or leghorns maybe california whites. I like my california white. she is quite docile and smaller than the rest of my flock but still lays large eggs almost every day. Are they selling straight run or sexed pullets?
