Dude...email me

I have found the offenders of roo attacks in my coop. It is the set of black frizzle roosters. These guys snuggle together and sleep together...and evidentally also pick on the smaller roosters together. I found one tiny silkie rooster down this morning and my larger silkie roo with some spots on his head. I am assuming that the his size saved him as maybe he's 3.5 pounds as the other tiny silkie is just under 3. These frizzle roosters are even tinier than that but they have got to go.

So, is there much eaten on them? If someone wants a set of frizzle black roosters, let me know.

Ordinarily, I'd get all concerned about their fate but not with roosters who cannot get along nice with others.

Ideas/suggestions?
I don't know one thing about frizzle roosters alive. But I have never had a backyard bird, big, little, old, young, that didn't make yummy soup. Even if you don't get much meat I am positive the broth/stock will be devine. I would just skin them and fill a pot...frizzle soup. yum.

I don't think so either. There was a tall lady with three tall young girls. The girls wanted bantams for 4H. There was an older guy that I talked to for a minute. Next time I'll  ask if anyone is on BYC!
How are your chicks doing?

They're doing great. I got the new babies for the silkies(3 days old) because the other babies(7 and 2 week) we just plowing over the silkies. I've never really had that problem before, so I put them in their own box and then they looked lonely and still hadn't figured out the eating thing. Th BOs settled right in and showed the silkie babies how to eat and they're all happy and cosy now. My hubby wants to shoot me. If selling the girls wasn't going so wrll , he probably would shoot me.

I'm so mad... this past week has been my week of bad luck with our chickens... okay its half of hubby's fault but still.
first my coop kill one of our chickens.

she thought she could get out just as the door was closing when hubby checked for eggs. hubby has worked with rabbits but he has never done chickens before (i am the one that does the chickens) and he didn't want to loose the meet. i was at work so he had to youtube the 'how to'. he did good for his first lol and dinner was done when i got home. that was cool. but i lost my leghorn.
second we have been nursing our RIR in the haus. i found her in the run area after the last snow we got. when i picked her up she didn't move and her feet were curd. after a day in the haus she stood up and was eating and drink but she looked sad. after a couple of days she would perch on the side of the bin we had her in but she didn't want to leave the nesting box we made for her or walk around. i thought she might go into 'mother mood' but then on Friday she pasted away... i do understand she was doing better and there was no damage to her legs or comb...

we lost two in one week.

good news: we made it up to Elizabeth's feed store Friday afternoon, after getting a little lost on the way... and picked up our new chicks. thank you Adam for telling us about it. i really enjoyed the store and staff. the drive was cool too, very senic. our toddler likes to watch the chicks its cute and he is trying to say bird but keeps calling them cat or pet. lol

So I had my first 2 cases of pasty butt. Both of the cuckoo Marans. All 9 of the other chicks are fine. I feel bad as I didn't notice it yesterday but when I checked this morning it was really caked on there.. It was incredibly difficult to remove. I dipped their butts in warm water and got most of it off, not all but most.

I went and bought yogurt and raw acv. Holy cow does that acv smell horrible!! I mixed it with their water. I also made a mixture of yogurt and crumbles. They haven't tried it yet but I assume they will eventually.

I also bought a smaller feeder tray to make some mash out of the crumbles. I am hoping they don't waste as much and maybe it will help with the pasty butt too.
My sebright had pasty butt bad for a couple days. I'd just hold her on her back and run warm\hot water on her rear and rub off the paste.
Plus I saw the Molasses post from Wendell, but I didn't have any in the house so I have been using brown sugar. Just a small clump in their water along with ACV. It work or at least the pasty issues has not come back since I started adding this combo to their water.

I have another friend that smokes the smaller ones to use for soups/beans/etc. She said that smokey flavor gets in the bones and just makes the best broth. I just have to coordinate getting them to her.
