Just throwing out my update.
Finally got a couple of eggs in November. Excited the girls started to lay. Got 3 or 4 and then nothing. Walked around the yard looking in their fav spots. Didn't see any more. Thanksgiving morning, headed to work and 2 girls are missing. Walked around and found nothing. Woke the missus as I had to leave. She is out the door in a minute and searching. Behind a piece of plywood, nailed to the fence, about 5" wide, she finds 5 little brown eggs. Further searching find a dozen more under a trampoline cloth. Had to pick it up to even see where the eggs were and how they got in. Then this freeze comes on. Have a few frozen eggs due to the varied laying times.
My son collected his chickens (of course, after they start to lay) I've had them since August. One of my friends little ladies is a rooster. Bought her from a local, but that's the way it goes. He is mostly quiet so far. No complaints from the neighbor. She is still deciding what to do. It's gonna be freezer camp or re-homing. Her decision.
My four girls are doing fine. Three seem to be laying little blue eggs. Waiting for the four per day stage. I'm keeping up so far.

Just sharing with our BYC family

Another thought....looking for a girl to replace the the rooster. If someone has 3 to 6 moth old pullet, most any breed, Please contact me or leave a note here.

We might have a gold laced polish pullet that is 5 months old. My daughter is trying to decide if she wants to sell her or not. I'm trying to convince her to because I don't think our coop can take that many LF. I'd rather sell her and get a bantam instead but she isn't convinced. She said she'll think about it.

trsturself Thanks for the thought. Not raising showgirls, so only looking spend 10 to 12. Less is better. Let me know though. This poor girl. We got her two from Big R. One got killed by the neighbors dogs. One turned out to be a rooster. Got two more. Silkie is cute as a button and the barred turns out to be rooster. Did get three eastereggers, a few weeks back. Two are my son's. One is for her. Just lousy luck on her birds.

Oh, my poor chickens. They look at me each day like "when can we come out". I keep telling them on Tuesday!
Tonight the turkeys knew what was coming. The female ran right into the hotel, and the male just let me pick him up and put him to bed. I am sooo ready for it to warm up. In fact I am ready for summer, I would like to fast forward through the rest of winter. I would like to see the green grass, plant my garden, hang out outside... sigh...

Wendy, how are those turkeys working out. Someone at work asked me why nobody sells turkey eggs. They have seen chicken and even duck. I surmised that turkeys eat way too much to justify raising them for eggs. Thoughts????

HI Camp Leader-
Well I don't really want my girls out of the coop with the windchill. I am usually good about preventing frostbite on the combs, but with this week they run out of the coop and take over the turkey hotel. So I decided not to let them out. We moved the food and water inside and they have plenty of room and nesting boxes. As for my turkeys, they are pets. I have no plans to eat them, we got them for the pure enjoyment of watching them. I am hoping for babies, or eggs come spring.
