This chicken thing is fun. Since my son took his girls home, I've been getting 2 or 3 pee wee and small eggs per day. This morning I opened the door a bit after 6 and had no eggs. At 8:30 I went back out to replace the frozen water and found 2 eggs. One measured out at extra large. An awesome surprise. The second picture is my normal catch. The big blue in the first picture was this morning. Big difference.
Wow, nice eggs. Congrats!

Here's a question. I picked up three EE(?) about 6 weeks ago. Had them on heat for 10 days, away from the flock. Noticed they smell bad. They added weight and I introduced them, they have been running on their own, but are starting to mingle as they get older. Again though, in the coop, they stink. Eating the same food, ranging the same yard, any thoughts. Wife has held them and says the birds don't smell bad. What could be making these girls waste smell?

I don;t know, but some folks add Apple Cider Vinegar to their drinking water. Is it really wet poos? Maybe that is the reason. Also, how big an area are they going in? Do you have shavings or straw down? I use the DL method, it really helps with the smell.

No kidding! My hubby would love to have some to use as bait. & I'd love to use them as chicken feed! Wonder why they're not up here? You must be south of us and you're hoarding the hoppers!

Maybe I'll try vinegar. The coop is 4X4, but they range a 60X80 back yard. The poo does seem wetter than the rest. Wondered if breed made that much difference in odor. Grandmas smelled like this, but last time I helped grandma was decades ago.

Are you seeing any blood in the feces? Smelly poop can be an indication of coccidiosis, although it doesn't sound like they are acting sick, so that probably isn't it. Adding ACV to the water may help, it certainly can't hurt. 1 Tbl/gallon. Try giving them some plain yogurt, in case they need some probiotic boost in their digestive systems.

The yogurt is a good thought. They seem to be thriving. No blood, Everyone seems healthy and happy, even after mixing them together. They were really thin when I got them, but quickly gained and filled out when I started feeding like the rest of the flock.

Hey all, newbie here. I live inside Fort Lupton city limits, and with the new chicken ordinance passing in the past election, my wife has consented (relented?) to raising some layers. However, I can't seem to find what the ordinance says (the city website hasn't yet been updated), or when it officially goes into effect. Anyone have that information?
