Colorado

samsr, how much bigger? Sounds like this one is going a great job so far!

I don't know how much larger at this point. Probably twice as big. It just depends on what I can find. I do like using the wine refrigerators as they have the double pain glass in the door already. If you find something you like I would be glad to put one together for you.
Do you think you will order any aracaunas this year. We really like the one we got from you last year and may want a couple more. They are pretty hens. she is rather slow on egg production however. we haven't received an egg from her since last oct. I guess she deserves a break just like the rest. My hens are starting to lay again. been getting 4 to 7 a day for the past week. That sure does fill up the egg cartons fast. My silkie, that one of my girls received from coloradogal, is laying like crazy 6 a week for the past two weeks. Does anyone know what has happened to coloradogal. Havent seen her post in a while and adam7 has dropped off the face of the planet.

I have seen someone use the water and pop coolers that you see at the checkouts in the grocery store made into an incubator. They are almost twice the size of your wine cooler one, and they too have the glass see through door. Just a thought......

Sure is staying light longer! Yay, c'mon spring! lol Wind is gusting here, guess our next snow is on i'ts way!!!

ones like that would also work nicely. I think I would add in a little more insulation however.

Hi Everyone,
I have an EE who might be molting? Is this the correct time of year? She's missing tail feathers and feathers under her chin (all-in-all looking pretty ragged). She's eating and laying, could it be something else?

That sounds like molting. You may want to take a close look for mites and lice, just to make sure. Look at the base of the feathers and around the vent area for eggs from these two pests. I have a black australorp mounting at the moment also. I hope she is my last one for this season.

I am having Ameraucana envy! If you decide you have a pullet that you happen to want to sell (I can dream right?) I would love a real Ameraucana. I was hoping to buy some lavender Ameraucana eggs this year and give them to my always broody hen but after hearing about a poor hatch rate on shipped eggs I can't justify the cost. I did break down and put a hold on some EEs from Elizabeth to fill my blue/green egg void. I wish there was a breeder in CO.

I have been breeding REAL Ameraucanas for quite some time. Three unrelated exhibition lines. No EE's, no fakes, my Ameraucanas never are bred with any other breed on the ranch. Just saying.......................... :) And gee, yup, I'm in Colorado, even though most folks think that the Western Slope is in a different state. :) :) :) :)

Doc, is there ever a time you travel toward us that I could meet you somewhere and buy some chicks from you? I love the REAL Ameraucanas as well, and would be glad to pick up chicks for whoever else in my direction might want some. If that doesn't work, do you permit people to come directly to your place to buy chicks?

I would be in for some chicks and will pay part of travel/shipping/whatever.
