[Percheron chick]

There's an Ameraucana breeder in Bennet that raises blacks and blues. Anyone know anything about them?

We got about 6 inches of wet snow here last night. It is sticking to everything. The trees look beautiful though. They ease my annoyance at the snow quite a bit.

Our injured chicken seems to be doing better today (knock on wood). I've given her a little vitamin water a couple times and about a nickle size amount of yogurt. I took the bandage off to check for leakage and it's dry. I'll continue giving her little bits throughout today and tomorrow, then maybe after that she'll be able to handle larger amounts. I'm so worried about her getting dehydrated through all this. I'm going to keep the bandage on as long as possible just for assurance. I haven't even looked at her other injuries since I got home. I saw the missing tail feathers but my family said she also has a large chunk of skin missing under her wing. Her crop took precedence so I hadn't even thought of it yet. I know it was already cleaned and antibacterial stuff put on though so I'm not worried about that.

trsturself - day 1 is the day after you set, so if you set on Friday they should hatch the third Friday from now - setting today would put hatch at February 21.

Suncatcher, they are mixed - Mayah has Marans in her flock and I can rarely see anything but the air cell in her dark browns, these that are due to hatch this weekend are from a mixed flock geared more toward production-type birds, and some of his eggs are almost as dark as Marans, and thick shelled. Healthy girls laying these eggs, looks like to me Super nice man out on the Mesa who's had chickens for decades, but it doesn't sound as if he has ever hatched his own, and was pleased to hear I was getting hatches especially this time of year. Even if the girls are laying, if it's cold and we aren't getting good hours of daylight, males will sometimes not be as fertile as they are in spring and summer, so lower percentage hatches can occur, especially if the birds are not exposed to any artificial light. I prefer not to use it myself - yes it will get more eggs out of the hens now, but to me it has always seemed it must shorten their lives, or at least shorten the amount of time over which the hens will lay eggs. That works well for some, it just isn't my preference.

maggiemo, I have not heard from Mr. Urch yet to see if he carried over our order so I will call him. Based on some input I received elsewhere, I decided to start trying to locate what was on our order in-state if possible, neighboring state next choice. So many have dropped out at this point that even if he has chicks the order will be less than half what it was, so if he will have BWA and nothing else I'll just have him send 25 of those and call it good, you and megshenhouse wanted those, and whatever you two don't want I'll just raise myself. So far that color seems to be especially hard to locate. I did get a message from someone who has blacks and silvers if that would be of interest to you and megshenouse.

If Mr. Urch tells me he won't have any BWA or Mille Fleurs this year I will just cancel the whole order. Mayah wanted Wellsummers and Naked Necks, which I think I should be able to find if she still wants them, and I've been looking elsewhere for Leghorns, and am considering putting that wish back on the maybe-next-year list. If I get some Ameraucanas and/or Sussex from Doc I'll have more than enough to keep me busy.

We are looking to sell our almost 2 year old female duck. We don't know her breed, but believe her to be a White Aylesbury or Pekin. Please PM me if you want a picture or are interested. maggiemo, I have not heard from Mr. Urch yet

Sorry this is such a pain. I thought this was not going to happen so I ordered some d'uccle mille fluers at the end of the season last year. I got them from the feed store in Fort Collins, they order from Welp and all they had were d'uccle's, no BWA or even bantam EE.
I have an order now with Meyer for OE. I have been gagging for OE and I finally figured that the only way I am getting them is to order them online. My order should ship the end of March. I also ordered some Delewares and a few Polish for my granddaughter. She wants her own birds here so I relented and said we could get a few Polish.

If you could get some Ameraucanas, bantam or standard that would be great. If not I have plenty of birds now. I will have to get rid of some as it is.

Nice! Fingers crossed you get a decent hatch!!! My first attempt at hatching shipped eggs, they were all losers..... :/ I was starting to think it was me, but turns out it wasn't, practice makes perfect. Just remember that.

SO true!!! Shipped are so frustrating. But when you get a nice hatch, or even just get a few that are really nice that you could not have sourced locally, it feels like such a victory!

LOL, I was going for quitters not losers!!! Yes, it is definately a great feeling. On another note..... I think we have close to a foot of snow, and more in the forecast! YIKES!
