Trst, Check out Elizabeth/Kiowa Coutry Corner, I think they are getting some Porcelain D's in this year. It has been where I have bought all my laying hens, never had a problem, I have had very good luck with anything I bought at the Kiowa store.

That's where we got our D'Uccle last year. I saw they are getting porcelain's this year. We might go get some if we don't get any hatched that we want to keep.

Our D'Uccle is our only bantam right now and she doesn't know she's smaller than everyone. Her best friends are our partridge rock and our cochin!

We are finally getting some snow today, not a lot but it's been flurrying all morning, so maybe an inch by now? I don't really like it but we need the moisture badly. A breeze out of the East but nothing like the winds the other night. Thank goodness.

Suncatcher I completely forgot you have Welsummers - how long have you had them, and how well do you like them?

Suncatcher isn't the one with Welsummers. That is me. I got some hatchery birds about 5 years ago - welsummers and cuckoo marans. I liked the welsummers way better. I got some more from Whitmore farms 3 years ago. I like their temperament and the roosters are gorgeous. Only thing about them up here is their points on their combs frostbite pretty easy.

Oh, of course, I'm sorry! Your avatar reminds me of Suncatcher's and I'm easily confused these days .. well, all days :) Are they pretty calm? I hope I get some to hatch, I know little about them except that they are very pretty and lay dark brown eggs - which to me means I probably won't be able to see anything but the air cell growing when candling. I don't think they are very common which surprises me, as everyone who has them says they like them very much. Are they decent layers?

If they are truly Bresse chickens, they are the holy grail in eating chickens. There is nothing else like them.

I read a little about them on Greenfire's website when someone recommended them to me, and they were so expensive I decided to put them on the back burner; then when this auction came up and the bid was low relative to the value of a single chick I upped it $5 because I felt bad for the person who had listed them and wanted to do my part to help this little girl who is sick. If I get a couple to hatch, especially a pair, and they thrive here, I will be a very happy keeper. My guess is they aren't well known yet? The pictures I've seen give the impression that they are plain compared to many of the other breeds Greenfire offers, but this other owner who recommended them absolutely RAVED about them, so there must be more than meets the eye - and this must be it, that they are a great eating chicken. Now to see if they will hatch and do well here :)

Do you have them?

Pozees if you are looking for leghons, I could give you some hatching eggs from my leghorn hen. My main rooster is a leghorn. He is a big guy. His comb isn't near as large as it used to be however, due to frostbite. Just let me know and I will start saving those for you. I have more than enough eggs in the fridge at the moment.
