I plan on hatching out at least once this coming spring, hope a few of my girls go broody as well.  I thought I had a broody last week, but guess she was just protective of the egg she had just laid, as she we not on the nest that evening.

I am hoping to be able to set up an extra pen this year, as I want to start hatching some purebreed eggs.  My Barnevelders have been a challenge for me for some reason.  I keep going over my plans and changing them every other week, LOL, hope I can get it together soon!  

Tst, I definatley want some fertile BR hatching eggs from you, or even chicks once you have them.

Wind is terrible here today, geesh, no reason to clear the walkway, as it gets covered up again!!!  We ended up with around four inches, but has drifted in places.

Can you share some pics of your barnies? Such pretty birds, would love to see.

@cochix dang lady! That sucks and double suck on the insurance "injury" lady you have to deal with now. Good luck on the surgery/consults.

@uzisuzuki I'm pretty sure my friend would love to sell some dwarf olandsk, she hatched some recently and they are ADORABLE!

My bf got me the hovabator 1588 and the janoel 47 (but I think I got sent a cheap chinese knockoff from amazon, we're seeing if it holds temp/humidity, if it holds it we won't return it) & I'm debating between a brinsea advanced 20 octagon incubator or rcom. I was really bummed when I got the "janoel" and opened it (didn't look like the model advertised either, nor does it match the picture on the box). My bf also got me the brinsea brooder heat plate big enough for 50 chicks/ducklings.

We're going to visit grand junction to help some friends set up their homestead (getting greenhouses and seedlings started etc) and about to make an order with Baker Creek seeds. We're going to possibly sell starts at the farmers market starting this spring and other stuffs.

We're going to probably end up building a plucker, it's just too much for me to hand pluck, especially the ducks. Which btw I am looking for Cayuga hatching eggs, wood ducks, mandarin duck and french white muscovy hatching eggs and more white bresse hatching eggs.

I'm chomping at the bit to hatch eggs, but am going to wait until after the new year to do so. I'm going to practice on eggs from my layers. I'm guessing that they're going to be mostly olive eggers with my roo covering my ee's being a terracotta color gene carrier. 2 of my smaller ee's lay a very blue egg, the others greenish blue, super pale blue, and a light olive. The production red Tootsie is just a laying machine, more so than my rc leghorn.

I have been told to not hatch eggs from pullets that have just begun laying. I have never hatched before, so idk anything.

My new zealand white x silver fox doe Grace is supposed to kindle any moment now. She absorbed her last pregnancy. It's nerve wracking having someone house/critter/plant sit.

Well I'm going to bake some more stuff and figure out wtd with a bunch of persimmons.

Our wind never died down all day. I couldn't even get the hay barn door open to feed the horses. I had to go the long way around to get their hay. I could tell it was cold just by them staying in their stall all day, they rarely go in there. I fed them twice their normal amount of hay today to help them fight off the wind. Our chickens are lucky that their coop door is on the opposite side from the wind so they could get to their food easily. The goats on the other hand could barely make it out of their stall, there was a drift almost 2 feet high right in front of it. They got excited when they saw me coming with the hay though and tried to go through it, one sunk up to his chin. lol

I have hatched some of pozees chicks and have 2 beautiful roosters from them. We didn't want to silkie roosters but can't bear to part with either of them. They are gentlemen and have great type, even though they aren't a recognized color. Here is one of them.

You will figure out the wind patterns and door placement this winter, and be better equiped to deal with it next year. Would have been a funny picture of your goat in a snow drift up to their chin!!!

I moved one of my seasonal chicken tractors that I use in the summer to a new spot, but now wish I hadn't put it where I did, as it is causing a MAJOR snow drift right where I walk to get to the coop. Live and learn!!!

Yep, have heard the Janoels are not that sturdy, etc, so they don't hold the temps well..... I have a HovaBator too, and really like it for the money.

Love Baker Seeds! I ordered some Russian type tomatoes for our colder climate from them, hoping they do well this coming year. Never got them in last year, so hope they are still good.

Good idea to practice on your own eggs first, for me the humidity was a big problen. I found my humidity in May had to be different than what it was in August inside the bator . Having a room humidifier helps greatly, as it keeps the room humidity at a steady amount. I kept mine anywhere from 55 to 40 depending on what the outside humidity was.

I am chomping at the bit too! lol I have to wait until the weather is warmer though, no where to brood them, unless I have a broody this time of year, which is highly unlikely!

I wish I had control over the goats door, but they sleep in a loafing shed type thing that's part of a longer building. It's ok, they have a small path they just have to go the long way around to get to me at the fence. lol

Beautiful boy and love the name. I have no idea what type of incubators we have, lol. Will be incubating and letting a couple broodies take their run at sitting on some eggs and hatching. I guess I need to start planning for timing of it all. I will also be getting some fertilized BCM eggs from our neighbors to hatch, got to try and coordinate hatching around the same time...should be a nightmare, lol. @DK - thanks for the words of support, have four appointments with four hand surgeons in the next two weeks. Will post my results and options. I can say if I have to have surgery and be down for 6 weeks then I want to do it this winter. Before hatching, gardens and spring hits us. @/uzisuzuki Here are some egg that I cracked yesterday, can you spot the bullseyes? Just trying to show some fertilized eggs, I believe we had 3/4 in this shot. Those boys are earning their keep!
