Yep, temp is dropping fast here!!! Less than one inch in the forecast though......

No eggs here for five days now, I am starting to wonder what is going with my girls!! They had picked back up, now this last week, nothing!

If you were closer I would buy some of those eggs.......... I may have to break down and buy some from the store, yuck!

What?!?! You wouldn't want to drive 2 1/2 hours to buy some eggs?

in a driving snow storm?

Bet you might consider it for hatching eggs or chicks though... am I right?

LOL

If the weather weren't what it is, I'd consider driving 1/2 way to meet & greet. Maybe chat over a cupa somewhere. I have no qualms about just picking up and driving off somewhere for a day. Specially now that gas is back down to where it SHOULD have been these past 6 years (grumble, grumble - rant, rant) if not for....

Anyway... gonna make another cup (mug) of hot tea and go doze in front of the TV till game time. Stay warm and dry!

I totally wouldn't mind doing some heritage/rare breed stuff once I get my coop/pen made this summer! I've actually change my design slightly to accommodate a breeding area just in case I wanted/was lucky enough to do something like that. I would like to be able to help others get some of these breeds locally that seem to be hard to come by if I could.

And I hope things go okay with the surgery, @COChix! I'm sorry that you have to go through it, though. Hopefully it helps you be less pain free.

Winter weather advisory... Snowing pretty good out there and blowing as well. Advisory ends at 9pm so don't expect much, but already about an inch on the ground. Coops are all closed up to keep this wind and blowing snow out. Just checked on them and they are all fluffed up and happy. Didn't let the weather stop me from grilling up some brats for lunch... YUM! Just finishing my dessert as I type here... spice cake w/cream cheese frosting... double yum :drool   Everyone getting ramped up for Wild Card weekend? I have the NFL network on in the background :bow   My team (NOT the ponies) is on the couch this weekend. Waiting to see who they'll be playing up in New England next weekend :yiipchick .

The weather hasn't stopped my silly girls from trying to create egg-sicles... Found one frozen 1st thing this morning and have already collected over a dozen more. Looks like my White Wyandottes and Delawares have finally come back off strike.  Any of you folks out there whose girls have taken a break, if you need eggs, I have like 6 doz on the counter right now after selling a flat yesterday. I need to find more clients who need eggs! Once all these girls are producing, I'll be swimming in eggs in a week's time!

@COChix
, sorry about your arm and wrist. I hope everything goes well and you're able to get if fixed "good as new" so you can move fwd with all you're doing. I'm sure you'll be happy to have it behind you.

Thanks on the arm! Yes I would like to move it behind me and move forward.

Hey so would all of you guys consider doing a meet and greet somewhere? Might be fun to meet for a luncheon or just a cup of tea and coffee somewhere. Not necessarily today!

Thanks! Just sucks as I have been working my butt of for a year for all of this stuff and now the unknown of what I might be capable of down the road, it is like starting over dealing with a disability. Just frustrating and causes me anxiety. I just keep telling myself that if I do it right, the recovery side, like I did after neck surgery my prognosis should be good. We will see what the other surgeons say, suppose to go to Frisco o meet with a hand specialist that has done work on the Broncos and US Ski Team.....

Murdochs in Longmont usually orders from mcmurray hatchery and does have a great selection. The trick I think is to go in February to the store and get their list of what they have ordered and what days they have chicks coming in. People usually snatch up all the chicks in a hurry and I have found it is best to plan ahead and be there the day they come in.

Hope that helps lacykins

Oh we are only keeping about 6 out of the 20 we have now. DH has his favorites and that is ok by me and the bantam cochins stay so they can help raise the new layers.
I am not feeling bad about it at all so no worries. My avatar is DH's most favorite hen. She is 4 years old now and never layed much but DH likes her and that he helped heal her up when we got her. She was about a month younger than the Rhode Island Reds she was in with and had been beat up badly.
The other one we are keeping is Twinkie the BO she is Itty Bitties bestest friend ever lol. She actually protects the tiny cochin from the big meanies.
I need to find a butcher in the Loveland/ Fort Collins area that will process chickens though since DH wont let me do it here.

Longshadow Farms in Berthoud does processing as does R&C meats in north Fort Collins. Hope that helps!

Thank you that does help. I did not find either of them myself.
I have been to and used both. R&C is fda inspected and such, They only process birds maybe once a month or so, they usually just collect names and numbers of birds until they have enough lined up to run all their equipment then call you back to schedule. Longshadow does all their birds outside on stainless steel tables, You can stay and help process you own birds to save a few bucks. She will start again in the spring and usually has a calendar on her website designating processing days. Also if you have a lot of birds to process I believe she rents her equipment out. Glad to have helped
