Colorado

Hey Uzi, what's happening with your hatch? Hoping for good news....
Hey Danica, sounds like a wonderful new place!
2 feet heavy wet snow, freezing rain and wind. Snow still coming down and I had moose tracks on my porch this AM.

You had a moose on your porch Margie?

Welcome Danica. My daughters name is Nyssa!!
Seems to me, if the previous owners have had chickens and ducks and geese at your house, they must have the predator problem sussed out already?
The place sounds lovely. Hope to see you here more.

Cold and drizzling here in North Boulder.

So I took the time and went through the eggs and did a rough candling this am. I was too pooped last night to do it. Anyway, it is hard to say how I am doing, some of our eggs from our EE are hard to see into them. I am going to do it again tonight when it is darker out. It was too difficult to take pictures while doing it as I am using a flashlight. I saw definite movement in some of the embryo and that was so cool! Anyway, some air sacks look bigger than others, some I think are not fertile as I see no veining, etc. There are a few where I have no clue as I can see an air sac but had a hard time making out the embryo's. I am leaving everything in the bator until the next candling.

@uzisuzuki - Did that little one make it out of the shell?

Welcome Danica!

Have you ever had one 'stop by' before???

Oh yeah. A few years ago we were nose to nose through our back door. It was very cool and she was not anything but curious. My young son was out running around the hood the other day and popped over a hill into these ones hanging out. Momma was very well behaved, not threatening at all, which was good considering my kiddo was about 10 feet away or so. He just backed up a bit and then went the other way.

DK, love those chicks!

I have several brahma chicks that are about a month old that will not be a part of my breeding group, but should be nice flock birds. If anyone is interested in N. Colorado please message. I'd like them to go to someone who will appreciate this lovely breed!

Sooo cool! The previous owners of this place saw moose here last year, so I'm hoping to see one myself!

I had no movement on the eggs last night when I got home, so I took initiative to try and assist. I just made sure that the 2 that were pipped externally had a zip started and could breathe through their pips. I didn't want to do too much and mess up the natural process.

This morning, nothing was happening still so assisted with the zips a little more. I got 1 Blue and 1 Blue Red to bust their way out of their eggs. The 3rd unfortunately suffocated as it was shrink wrapped and I was unsure of how to help that one other than trying to moisten the membrane back up. 1 other died in the egg some time during lockdown, probably also due to shrink wrapping. There are 2 more in the incubator still, but I have a feeling they're probably already dead as well.

Definitely a learning experience between my own flock's eggs and shipped eggs from GA.
