Can't wait to see our mutt's hatch. I am hoping we will have some cute mixes.

I bet they'll all be adorable! It's the curse of baby animals: to be irresistibly cute so we falling n love with them & then get suckered into giving them better lives than we give ourselves. Or maybe that's just me! :D

I'm definitely interested in a few purebreeds just because they seem hard to find locally, but I have to admit that after this first hatch seeing which traits are more dominate in the mixes has pretty much captivated the artist/mad scientist in me.

I have a desire to have a blue egg laying male so we could mate with our EE and have OE. besides that a couple other breed interests are BCM and then maybe one day our own EE. We have a long way to go first. I will just be happy if all the eggs in lockdown hatch. I know that is not realistic, nor am I expecting it.

So how soon after lockdown should I expect anything? I ask cause I already saw some eggs moving. Got them into lockdown around 2:00pm. Humidity is sitting between 65-70 and temps have been 98-101. So things are going well so far. I am going to set an alarm to get up and check everything in a few hours. Depends how late I am up.

Thanks for the pond advice... yes, you guys are right. I totally wasn't thinking about the avian flu. :(

And very cool bee pics!! We want bees. Our friend made us a nice hive, but up here in the foothills, we were warned about bears. So now we have to figure out how to make the hive secure and where to put it so the bears don't come for a visit.

Tonight we had our first predator visitor. We went to take the dog out and I saw a fox. So we kept the dog in, and everyone raced to the coop to lock the chickens up. Fox didn't come near the coops, but it was a good reminder why we only let them free range when we can watch them.

For me, it took the full 21 days for anything to start happening, but I've read sometimes eggs cam hatch ride after being put into lockdown. :)

I was just reading some hatching threads and see some people have reported eggs hatching the next day after lockdown. I guess at this point anything is possible, I am not sure how much I will be sleeping this week.

OMG the shot of your babies meeting their parents was super cute. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

Yep watch out foxes are super smart. We have had some recent coon activity. Like the other night I saw one right outside the chicken pens at dusk. This was right after I locked up the gang, we have traps set as we lost one last year to a coon.
