The broody is catching!! My runner duck Penelope has decided... well I might want to sit in a coop all day on eggs too.

Nooooo!!!! I can not have 8 broody birds at once!!

Sun is out here, sorta, it comes and goes behind the clouds. We have had at least five inches of rain this week alone!

Still can't get anything planted, but here is hoping this week or next it will dry up and warm up!

Chickens are laying like crazy, need to start freezing some for next fall.

Sun is out here too and it's a beautiful day outside!

A nice breeze and not too hot. Wish it could stay like this all year 'round! Looking at the mountains is impressive with their new top coating of blazing white snow! Nice for later summer water!

Hate to say it but the NWS is calling for several more days of rain starting mid week

Oh well. Happy memorial day and remember the reason for the day. May they all RIP!

It's pretty sunny and hot here for the moment. .. perfect reason to break open a watermelon for the flocks to cool off with.

here's one of my cornish cross meat chickens yesterday at 11.5 weeks old. I have to lift them with both my hands they are so big!

Hey everyone,

Thought I'd introduce myself to this thread. Last time I was checking on this site daily, my wife and I were living in KS. Caught the chicken bug there, realized backyard hens were prohibited where we lived (Rose Hill, KS), and so proceeded to take it up with City Hall.

After successfully changing the local ordinance, we realized just how much Colorado was calling us home, and began making plans to move back (which put our aspirations for starting a flock on hold).

Now that we're getting settled again in Colorado, we're looking to purchase our next home (likely in Frederick), and have pressed play on the chicken plans again. Excited to be back here researching everything and preparing for starting our flock, which will probably be in the spring of 2016.

Hmmm, no rain here today, kinda strange! lol I was getting used to the down pour every evening!

A word to the wise on the Frederick chicken keeping. I do not think they are allowing them yet. Last I heard they were not allowed. ( I work right by there and some of my coworkers are in Frederick.)

Perhaps in an unincorporated part of Weld county would work better. Longmont has strong restrictions from what I understand as well. I think it is 6 hens with permit required.

Anywho welcome to Colorado and the Colorado thread. I am sure you will find a nice place to set up roost.

Regarding chickens in Frederick, I was under the impression all's good there now: http://www.frederickco.gov/FAQ.aspx?QID=120 - Please let me know if this info isn't correct.

We're looking at a small flock right now, probably no more than 6 hens, so we have a few options to choose from. That being said, I've definitely seen some cities with a very lengthy list of rules and stipulations regarding chickens (such as Firestone), so I'm thinking that may be a warning sign that things aren't as chicken-friendly as some other areas.

And in Denver you can have 9 hens (ducks and chickens). So bass ackward. You can even have hens in the people's republic. Try unincorporated parts of the county. You shouldn't have any restrictions.

I do know of horses within the city limits in an older neighborhood. Chickens could be more of a problem in all the new construction.
