Isn't it fun having a backyard flock of chickens?

I enjoy their different personalities. It's fun to just sit on the deck and watch their behaviors as they forage in the yard. I call them living lawn ornaments....

I love my chickens! So much fun!

That's the downside of keeping chickens....everyone wants hens, nobody wants Roos. We looked on Craigslist one time and found a home. Another time I found a co-worker when I was doing summer research.

Re-homing Roos can be a challenge.

Its true yet sad. Roos arent welcome in most homes. I love my buff Orpington roo, and if I had enough ladies I might be tempted to keep the handsome bantam I have now

I've only recently started but it is a lot of fun. So far I've done blue, teal, and purple. I'm not doing purple again. Even after 4 weeks it still bleeds out when wet. The other colors stopped doing that after about two or three washes. When the purple has faded more I'm going with pink to see how they mix. I waited so long because it required me to bleach my hair and I didn't want to do a lot of damage to it. But now that I pulled the trigger on that I'm going to try every color.

I adore my ducks. They were the first and have started me on an avian adventure. In less than a year I have gone from no birds to ducks, chickens, and quail. I'm seriously considering moving to a place where I can have roosters in a couple years. Maybe the Black Forest area. I've always wanted to move to a place where neighbors aren't so close anyway. You don't need a big pond for ducks. I'm sure they would love a pond but my ducks seem very happy in their kiddie pool. Lots of folks keep ducks without having a pond. Not that I'm trying to convince you to get ducks.

Certain colours & certain brands due tend to bleed/fade more often & easier. I don't shampoo my hair that often (to make the colour last longer), so I sometimes still get blue/green coloured sweat or colour transfer onto my arms or hands when I sleep. Bleaching is the worst part! I really hope I go silver instead of grey just to make it a little easier to colour my hair.

Oh yeah, I had some lovely purple sweat. Wasn't expecting that and it stained my shirt because I didn't have my hair in a high pony tail. . Luckily I was doing yard in an old t shirt so it wasn't a big deal. I started getting grey hairs in my late 20s. I use an ammonia free brunette color for the top layers that covers really well. It also makes my hair super shiny. Not sure what brand it it. I go to a stylist.

I have 5 roos in 4 enclosures. (2 roos in one), and they crow all day with no set schedule. I've heard them light off at 2-3am with no apparent cause. Even with my windows open and the air still, it isn't loud or annoying and they are all located no more than 60 feet from my back sliding glass door, right beside my recliner. I think perhaps some folks are overly sensitive and should get over it. Many of them have dogs that bark and make more noise at worse times and for longer periods than any roo.

Maybe if the city changed their ordinance to where ANY one can have up to # chickens with NO permit required. Then make a permit required to have a roo. Said permit to be issued once the authorities have a signed document from mall surrounding neighbors that they have no issue with the roo being there. If the neighbors require the roo be kept inside a sound restricting bldg till after say 8am, then that would be part of the permit wording. I don't know... I'm gonna live in the country where I don't need a permit to have animals.
