So far the feathered feet in the snow has not been a problem. Even the mud in the spring has not caused mud balls on the feathers. Either that or my gals spend extra time cleaning lol.

I'll have to wait on more birds as my current coop is nearing its capacity but I'm defiantly going to look into the breed. I've got a list going of the new breeds I want to add in the future. How do the feathered feet do in the snow?

Don't forget to look at the endangered lists on The Livestock Conservation site! I went through and made some very deliberate choices to increase the survivability of some of our heritage breeds. I also chose based on high degree of foraging to reduce feed bills.
 
I haven't posted here in a while. I am in Ft. Collins and have a small flock of brahma. I have several splash chicks that are less than a week old that will need homes. PM me if you are interested.
 
Brought the babies home today... They all drank some water and pecked at the food and then 3 of them went under the MHP and snuggled up. The Dominique (the smallest one) was feeling curious I guess, she wandered around the brooder peeping loudly for awhile, checking things out then eventually she went under the MHP too. They're all sleeping in there now... So adorable!
 
Everyone's chicks are so adorable! I'm still waiting to hear if I'll have a few Olandsk Dwarf chicks next month, while also eagerly checking the peahen nesting box every evening for peafowl eggs. None so far, but the peacock has gone from just strutting around to sounding his mating call. I've been keeping the hen eggs out to rotate just in case I do get some peafowl eggs to hatch (I've read they don't lay that many eggs their first year laying).

Beyond that, my first two hatchlings are now two years old! I can't believe I hatched them & kept them alive this long. Made me feel better about my level of competence in life. :) They're tendency to act like Jaime & Cersei Lannister has unfortunately gotten more engrained as they've gotten older, so I picked up some free rooster coops off of CL that I'm going to turn into breeding coops & a coop just for those two. They're really bullying the rest of the chickens!

I'm also working more on my chibi animal designs. I've got a few of them up on my Red Bubble site right now. I'm also working on a Build A Flock charms - I've got 10 breeds of chicken I'm working on drawing now. The idea is to get them made into 1/2" charms (clear acrylic) for people to be able to pick & match to represent their flock. They've been easier to draw than my own flock for some reason. It's kind of on hold right now since I'm heading into midterms for classes & things are getting busy with that.

Uzi, I am hoping you get the chicks and eggs that are eagerly awaited! Hatching some peachicks could be quite a fun adventure!
