Colorado

Well, my parents ordered 15 white polish from Murray McMurray & all of them survived the mailing. There's even a mystery chick that I think may be a fayoumi. I was surprised all of them were alive & am delighted all of them are still alive. My flock needs females! LOL

Since I've never had this many chicks in the brooder before, I'll be setting them up outside in a week or so. None of my brooders are big enough for 15 growing chicks. I am also getting my 3 peachicks ready to move outside permanently - this one makes me sad because they follow me around outside like I'm a mother goose & it just melts my heart. But they are definitely getting too big to be sleeping inside. I want to wait 1 more week so they're 2 months old & fully feathered.

How's everyone doing? I image everyone is busy. I'm taking a little break from work to check in on BYC. My quail and chicken chicks are doing well. Four of the 5 EEs that hatched look so similar it's weird. I'll have to get some pics. I'm going to start another set of eggs because none of the blue eggs hatched. I don't know what it is with those Ameraucana eggs. I also ordered some chicks from Meyer to come around the same time mine should hatch. I ordered some dark brown layers I've been wanting and 5 from the "rare" breed assortment. Should be fun to see what I get. I ended up ordering some meat birds. It came down to about the same total price with 10 more chicks because the shipping was cheaper. I figure if I'm paying that much anyway I might as well get meat chicks instead of paying the $30 extra in shipping. Now I really need to get to work to rebuild my old coop as the new meat bird coop/run.

Little Kaylee is healing very nicely. I sectioned off a bigger part of the coop for her so she's no longer in the cage that everyone else liked to sit and poop on. She seems much happier to be able to move around more. I'm hoping to put the chicks in with her and see how that goes. I'll of course keep them separate at first but I'm hoping I can keep them together so she can have company. I think it will still be a few more weeks before she will be fully healed and I know she is going a bit stir crazy.

I've decided that Little Grey gets to stick around. He is fitting in on the farm well and isn't causing stress to the others. Since he is staying he gets an official name. He's now called Wash (also from the show Firefly).

We have a very nice opportunity and will be buying a new home. We are looking in Parker and Castle Rock ideally but would lov to Lee my fowl. Is there anyone here that live in these areas and point us to HOAs that will allow fowl? Thank you so much

Has anyone else on this thread noticed a decrease in egg production since the eclipse? I thought mine were getting ready to molt, but then another chicken raising friend said hers aren't laying either.....weird.

:welcome and the Colorado thread @DownCrown I can't offer any information on the Parker area. Though I would think it would be easier to find a place without an HOA. I have to say it's been so nice for me out in the country where I don't have to worry about restrictions on chickens.

My pullets haven't slowed down at all. My Wyandotte has a little and my other two hens don't lay that well so it's hard to tell. My ducks have stopped completely and started molting last week. It was good timing on them though because one had to go on antibiotics for a serious foot infection. If they hadn't stopped I would have had to throw out all the eggs so this way there is no waste.

I've got five 3-week old chicks in the coop, 13 eggs in the incubator that are set to hatch this weekend, and an order of 20 chicks coming next week. I have fallen prey to chicken math. :barnie Though I did stop myself from ordering more ducks from the other breeds I want. I'll wait til Spring for that.
