Colorado

Do you have a dog? Mine seems to discourage them from coming for a visit.

I have two dogs, one is an aloof little yorkiepoo and the other is a bird dog. Hopefully the little one can hold down the fort because I'm a little reluctant to let the hunting dog in the backyard when the chickens are out. He's going to think they're for practice!

Down in Security, we don't see a lot of hawk. Too many crows. They keep them away.

In Fountain by the creek you see them all the time. Also lots of big owls.

Hi, I need HELP from fellow chicken people.

I have recently become a statistic - through divorce and a long stretch of unemployement I am forced to try and sell my house before it's foreclosed. Thankfully I have a Brother in Fort Collins Colorado that is willing to try and help me and my 12 yr old daughter relocate. We live in a very rural area of Minnesota where farms, cows and chickens are part of daily life.
Here's my Impending Disaster.... we have 16 chickens & 4 ducks. I have been looking for a rent-to-own home or rental house for weeks now. Nobody in Colorado seems to think chickens are pets. I keep getting suggestions from insensative people telling us to just "eat" them or give them away. Would they tell me to do that with our dog.... These chickens are very important to my daughter. She has raised them since they hatched. She has names for each of them, she plays with them almost daily. One silly rooster even lets her dress him up in little costumes she makes for him. She cried herself to sleep last night because she couldn't stop thinking about having to give them up. And I must admit - I am shedding my fair share of tears over it too. They are our PETS.
Does anybody live in the Loveland / Ft. Collins area with Chickens?
Can anybody offer some advice or helpful suggestions on where or how to find a place for my daughter and I to live?
Thank you.

To be honest with you, a trailer or modular would be fine if it meant we could keep our chickens. As long as it SAFE and CLEAN it would be fine. I'm not afraid of a little work to fix it up or a little bleach and detergent to clean it up. I just want to keep what's left of our little 'family' together. My daughter and I have already lost so much these last 2 years, the thought of losing all or most of our pets is unbearable.

Featherpets! There are actually some really nice modular homes now days. If you're familiar with Craigslist, go on there and pull up the Northern Co/Ft Collins area and look. I know there are places out there.

Good luck,
Cara

Fostering would be a great temporary option. I wonder how I'd find someone out there to do that? I'm not too familiar with this web site yet,,,, would that be something I could post here? Which forum? Or maybe a craigslist entry. I'm kindof scared of Craigs lately with all the extra traffic and "X" rated junk going on out there, not to mention the guy up for murder from Craigslist. Eeeek!
