Colorado

I live in a tiny town on I-70 west of Vail. Our town doesn't allow chickens but my neighbors are very supportive. If nobody complains I'll be ok. I wanted to raise some birds for a 4-h project. It turned out to be really fun. My dad is a carpenter and he built the coolest chicken coop. It looks like a kid's playhouse. I have 5 silver phoenix 2 RIR and 2 EE

camillebug - Welcome to BYC! I'd love to see pictures of your finished coop. Glad to here you are in 4H...my daughter is also.

Welcome Camillebug. Nice to see more people on here from Co. Is anyone interested on blue slate turkey poult toms? I posted a pic of my extras on "other poultry" for sale.

Hi, there, Camillebug! I am north of you, in the Flattops above Glenwood. Now, you can't be calling Gypsum a "tiny" town when you've got a "Costco," for Pete's sake!! Couldn't resist tease you over that...after living in the wilderness for a decade, Costco and Walmart are the way I have come to delineate civilization from backwoods life.

Welcome....

I've been feeding a whole grain diet to my flock. And I truly mean "whole" grains, rather than cracked. I am gravitating toward organic gradually, as well. I'm looking for quality sources (organic or not) for wheat, oats, brown rice, barley and other grains, either on the Western Slope or the Front Range.

Does anybody have good connections? Does anyone here belong to Rainbow Food Co-op?

Thanks for any ideas!

Wow, lots of CO chicken lovers. We're in the foothills out side of Denver. At the moment we' re up to 51 chickens and 18 different breeds. They've become an addiction.

Alpinefarm, the only place I can think of that has some whole grains is Golden Organics in Golden. There's also a co-op out in Brighton, come to think of it. Unfortunately since I'm on this side of the mountain I can only think of Front Range places.
