I'm electing not to do the artificial light this year. Not set up for it #1, but I also figure that the girls need a break too.

I got soo frustrated with no eggs that I've stopped checking the nest boxes. I have to change them out and put in something different so I wen't to measure the space and low and behold someone started laying! I've got three nice little brown eggs out there.

I'm not sure who they are from besides my younger batch of pulletts who are just coming in to laying age. My suspiscions are they are from speckles my very friendly sussex.

Makes me think that as I keep adding to my flock I may very well keep the ages staggered to help extend the laying cycle.

Coloradochick - The grand baby looks great! just like poppa when he was a chick!

Karen, they are funny little things. Beebers is a very good momma and gets very snippy if anyone else gets curious and wants to take a peek at them. They've been coming out of the garage and dirt bathing and scratching for eats in the yard with Beebers. Yesterday she had one covered up with dirt. Very cute.

I'm suffering from "bird overload".

Unfortunately, my bird dander allergy is rearing it's ugly head. I'm okay with my chickens - they are in the yard in a wonderful coop (built by my wonderful hubby), but my Coturnix Quail are really starting to set me off. We have them in an enclosed building and even with ventilation and fans, I'm no longer able to do the daily cleaning - dear hubby has stepped in, but the birds are my idea - not his, so don't want to push it.

If anybody within driving distance (we're in Teller County) would be interested, I have 7 cages of 3 female/1 male - all laying great and a cage of 6 bachelors that are due to be processed. All the birds are 3 months old and so have plenty of life/eggs left.

I'll be listing them on craig's list within the week, but wanted to let folks here know they are available (whole set up of birds, cages, etc for a reasonable, negotiable price). If I don't get them placed, we'll have lots of quail in our freezer - just hate to go that way since they are from 5 different bloodlines and at the beginning of their reproductive lives.

Above the clouds, can you post prices? I was just thinking the other day that the duck run might be big enough for some quail...LOL

FYI- There's a pair of I think Blue Swedish Ducks at Table Mountain Animal Center. The people there weren't sure if that's what they are and I'm just guessing. But they said the two were surrendered and are very tame. They're a very pretty couple. $40/pair

Cara, You went to Table Mountain and left empty-handed??? You have so much more discipline than I do!!! Same reason I'm not allowed to walk down the cookie aisle at the grocery store!!
