Colorado

Hi HogbackMtnChickns, Owensmom, Missysv, Megshenhut, Luvducks and Warbird. I too am on the Western Slope. I'm in Grand Junction and excited to see more chicken people over here. This was my first year with chickens and so far I'm loving it! Good to see you all on here

Anyone going to the Kiowa animal swap? Saturday at Kiowa feed, Sept 10. I have never been to one before and am thinking of taking my Blue Cochin Roo. A friend of mine is taking 20 chickens. I am just curious what they are like? She says you can sell them or swap them or give them away, Just curious about it. She had only been once a few years ago.

I just saw this so it doesn't help you but I thought I'd comment. I drove by Saturday morning at 9:45 and there were cars parked out on Hwy. 86 -- lots and lots of people there. I have no idea what kind of animals were there but I saw: horses, dogs, ducks and chickens -- as I was driving by. My understanding is that there is usually a good turnout at those. I do know that yes - you can sell, swap or give away... your animal - your choice.

Upcoming swaps anyone??? I need to cut down the flock before winter and nobody seems to be biting on craigslist. I can always process, but butchering duck hens seems like such a waste to me.

WOW There are more chicken lovers up here then I thought. Winter will be the time to network when there is less work to be done.

Anyone going to the National Finals Border Collie Trials in Carbondale?? First time ever in Colorado. I'm very excited and will work as a volunteer there. This trial is the Super Bowl of dog trials and all the big handlers will be there. If you do come by ask for me I'll be around!! Lynn Graziano & Owen

Not going to the collie trials But will probably be on here more as the weather gets cooler.

Welcome all. I am up in NW Colorado closer to Baggs, WY than I am to Craig. Did go through Meeker last thurs. on my way to a meeting in GWS and saw some of the dogs working. Wow! Very impressive. Going to venture into turkeys this fall. I can't get my DH to try peafowl. Need snake control. We have had to many close calls this summer and they have mostly been right around the house. Fearful for my family and my dogs, horses, and cows. Most recent was just yesterday when we were chopping wood. After working to fill the trailer we were just putting the last logs on and my son saw the blasted thing. We are thinking a den is near by. Anyways, I have heard great thinks about turkeys and peafowl so if they keep the snake abay they will be repaid handsomely for their efforts.

Dropping off 4 of my duck hens in a little while. Thanks Allen & Chandra!

Still have 2 more girls that need a new home if anyone is interested. These are a 3 year old gold Welsh Harlequin (Wendy) and a 2 year old silver Welsh Harlequin (Abby). Wendy is going because I want to concentrate on silvers. Abby, even though she is a great broody, is going because she is WAY too loud for the suburbs!

You are very welcome.

The girls are home and all settled in for the night. They didn't make a quack on the drive home. They are beautiful and I am glad I finally own 2 Welsh Harlequins, and I didn't have to hatch out eggs to get them.

Thanks again!

I am in the same situation as Wifezilla. I need to either re-home or butcher my two Cayuga hens. They are SO beautiful, and should start laying soon. I decided to focus on meat ducks (Muscovies) instead of egg ducks. If anyone is interested please let me know.
