So this is my question now...we wanted to get five different breeds...Ameraucana, Barred Rock, Rhode Island Red or Red Star, Astralorp, and Buff Orpington. So I am going to call around and see if we can find one of the other breeds today or tomorrow so our Ameraucana can have company. I am now wondering if we should get a vaccinated one or stick with getting them all from Agrifeed. I certainly don't want the non vaccinated one getting sick because the other chicks come from a more unhealthy environment. What do y'all think?

I am thinking that you should just stick with where you bought this one. A lot of places won't let you walk with just one chick anyway and for germ wise, the same place is best. Maybe chicken math strikes and you get six breeds...... a very good sense of humor is essential!

I always go with vaccinated, but that's me. Just safer overall.

Does anyone know where I could get a copy of the entrants list for the feather fanciers show last October? I am trying to find the name of the breeder who sold me my bantam brahmas. :/

Yep if your little one is not vaccinated then stay with chicks that haven't been. They really only reccomend the vaccine for large flocks or business' not backyard birds. I like Margies way of thinking, maybe you get 6.........

So I got another Ameraucana. Baby girls are much happier now. I just realized I didn't pick up any vitamins/electrolytes so will try and get them tomorrow as feed store closes soon. Another friend from the Springs Urban Homesteading group said they would buy one of them when they get older, so we can still end up with five unless we get very attached which is entirely possible!!

Hi NHN, the swap should be up here at the Co-op on Hwy 85 and Bromley across from Walmart.

eta: So my dd and I stopped by the swap this morning. Needless to say I won't be stopping by again. Wow, people complain about how the hens are treated at the mass production facilities.....well I saw the same thing at the swap. Hens that looked atrocias, plucked bare in many spots and dirty, sitting on top of each other. Some cramped in those little cages and feet were getting stuck in the holes and twisted up between the ground and the wire. An Aussie Shep puppy with a rubberband around her tail (presuming it's to dock it) getting chased by 4 kids and everytime they touched her she cried out. It all just broke my heart. I understand these people are farm/country folk but come on. The roos foot and the pups tail was just abuse.
