Just thought of a fun activity: When we all have eggs, Real eggs that is, we will need to cook examples of everyone's eggs the same way and see which breed's eggs we all like best! That is, some of us ever get eggs....... real eggs......

Hear, hear!

I have a confession to make. I've never had "real" eggs. Last weekend I even went out to a farmer's market to get some and no one had any. So, I get them at the store. Not even the super-fancy cage free ones either - the cruel white cheap ones in the 5-dozen big package. This is one of the reasons I got chickens in the first place - I eat three eggs every morning and sometimes hard-boiled ones for snacks. I'm an egglomaniac. Does anyone have a recommendation for where to buy good eggs here locally until my girls start laying? There are a bunch of egg sellers on craigslist but I don't know who to trust really.

The girsl and Pecker discovered my new apple trees last night....

I'll have to do something about that.....

Aww look at that hungry bird! That's the way my girls eye our squash plants. Who knew they would like the tough, spiny squash leaves?

From what I've read lots of animals like apple and cherry trees because the tree itself tastes good. The guy at the tree nursery even said to put a guard around the base to keep rabbits from eating the bark.

On Sunday a lady at church (who we used to get eggs from occasionally) how all of a sudden there were no eggs. They do a total free range thing, (they are off Old Pueblo Road, east bank of Fountain Creek) and are always losing chickens to predators, so she looked and all her hens were there, but no eggs. None were moulting. This went on for a couple of weeks, and they were to a point where they thought they would need to (gasp) BUY eggs!. Then she got up early one morning and stealthily followed a couple of the hens around the yard. They had found an opening and had gotten under the back porch where it wa cool. There were close to 3 dozen eggs there!
