I did the Field Service Tech thing many years ago...racked up huge Frequent Flyer Miles back when that meant something.

I got to see many different parts of our great nation and some international travel as well. You could not pay me to go into an airport today. I'm still burned out on travel....

Does that mean you don't want to come work for me?

I am Manager of Quality Control for SkyWest Airlines, at our COS mx facility. Been with SkyWest for over 26 years.
The worst part of the trip wasn't the travel, but the reason for it. Somewhat stressfull and nervewracking, . Can't discuss it on the forum.

We just found one nesting in our compost pile! With all the outdoor cats in this neighborhood I have no idea how they survive but I want them outta here. Luckily they can't get through the 1/2" hardware cloth to the girls, and the coop is shut up tight, but I still don't like them around ever since the plague reports a couple years ago. How do you get rid of yours? I'm not willing to risk poison but traps never work that well.
In other news, our garden is HUGE! While we were out on vacation everything doubled in size and we had pattypan squash (the ones that normally fit in the palm of your hand at the grocery store) the size of my head. Once we get some eggs going we'll be in farm heaven

Is anyone here a veterinarian, or know one personally? I'm thinking about a major change in what I'm doing with my life...

I tried it before, did not last long... I am a meat eater by heart and I don't like most vegetables, but I have a few friends who are. The only thing I learned was that you need protein for energy but if you have questions I can pass them along. I also cook a bit for them when they visit and can give you a few recipes or recipe ideas.

My husband use to with with Frontier, IT, when they opened a new hub or had major issues they would send him. I hated it more then he did. With his current company he only has to go to Canada every other year.

i haven't tried yet. Sun is when i'm going to take on the shed. Its not safe for me to do it with my daycare girls here. The little one eats EVERYTHING she can pick up.

I'm going to get a couple metal trash cans to store chicken feed/scratch in and i'm also going to get a lid for a 5 gal bucket so i can keep our wild bird seed in there along with any other plant seeds i might find. I'm hoping to cut off their food source and make them move on that way.

They don't seem to be going after the food in the run at least.

what do you normally do with your patty pan? I've tried grilling it before and we didn't like it.

My birds were spoiled yesterday, I got in my order of supper worms and gave them the weaker ones I didn't think would survive. That = a lot of worms, they were amazingly well behaved after that. I will have to wait a few days to give them more now.

wsmith, I've thought about working for an airline/airport before as I've got the training for it (former 911 dispatcher) but I realized that I like animals a whole lot more. Do you have any pictures of your little squatty hen?

I know you just mis-read that as vegetarian (I even had to double-check that I didn't type it by mistake), but I'm the furthest thing from that! My favourite burgers are the kind with as many meats as possible - bison patty, beef patty, goat cheese, bacon, egg on top! I have some veggie friends but it's not a lifestyle I would choose - like you I'm a meat eater at heart. Though cheese-and-nut-loaf is really delicious too. I want to keep eating animals, and also start taking care of them

I've been looking into the vet program up in Ft Collins and I'm going to start taking biochemistry classes this fall to get ready to apply. After reading about Marek's, ascites, bumblefoot, and all of these horrible afflictions that nobody can find a vet willing to take care of, I want to be a vet that can and will do something to help. If anyone knows of a rural vet that I could talk with I would really love to get to know their thoughts on vet programs and what it is like day to day.

what do you normally do with your patty pan? I've tried grilling it before and we didn't like it. 

We just pan-fried it in a bit of olive oil, salt/pepper, and fresh garlic. It's a bit plain that way but we ate it as a side with some spicy pasta which evened it out some. TBH this is the first time I've ever grown it so I don't have many ideas on how to cook it... yet!
