I've gotten 18 chicken eggs and 3 duck eggs in that last two days. I know that at least one of the red stars is laying. I have a new ee laying and I believe it's Wendell #1 as my others aren't old enough yet. I suspect in the next 3 weeks, I'll be eating lots and lots of eggs. :)

edit: half the eggs are still little, little eggs so can't do much with them other than eat them.
We got a nice green egg today too!

It's a little quieter at my place this morning..... !

Still some noise from the EE cockerels, but that will stop in a couple of weeks.

Probably just soft-shelled, maybe they were startled shortly before their regular laying time, I had that happen three times, first time I was pretty unsettled as others here can attest :) On the Old Timers thread, Beekissed says this happens annually and resolves itself; it may or may not be related to higher protein needs, and may just be a fluke as it was for me.
Old Timers post on this was very helpful to me. It takes 30% of the calcium in a chickens body to make an egg so increase your oyster shells for stronger shells. Make your bedding in the nests softer and thicker and check for eggs more often. All chickens will eat a broken egg so if someone stepped on one they will eat it, that is normal survival. This was happening with mine too, lasted a few days. I added more nesters changed out the bedding and found that some of my chickens were burying their eggs in the corners to protect them. lol. If you do all this like I did it should stop right away. Throw in a couple fake eggs too. It does not have to be a chronic issue and quickly make these modifications so it does not become a habit. Good luck!

I realized earlier that there is a decent chance I will be keeping a Silkie cockerel past the point of fertility. I may or may not be able to hatch any of the eggs before he has to go but would any of you guys like to hatch the eggs if I get fertile ones? They'd be blue Silkie over either buff brahma or mottled split to Mille Fleur cochin. Should be interesting. And the pullets should be broody as heck!

Edit, sometimes I hate spelling autocorrect...

We decided on Abraham. Went a different route altogether. As he will be the "patriarch" of our flock, we named him after the first Bibical patriarch. The next one will be Isaac, and so on.
Wendell, are you keeping a back-up male? You may have mentioned this earlier, but a back-up rooster is always a good plan.
