Wendell, are you keeping a back-up male? You may have mentioned this earlier, but a back-up rooster is always a good plan.

You are right, and that was the plan. The problem was that my "backup" rooster got too aggressive. So currently, we do not have a backup on site. I do have a backup plan however. I can probably borrow the other one I sold, and if need be, I can get another batch of eggs from the breeder i got him from. Crossing our fingers that Abe will work out. He's already mounting and doing his duties, so IF there was a flock tragedy, I could save the eggs for a week or so and hatch out a batch if needed. That is, if he is fertile...

Hatch day for the last batch of chicks for the year should not be until tomorrow. I didn't put them in lockdown until Sunday. I woke up today and there is 1 baby chick and 2 more that are pipping. My temperature wasn't off. Now I'm concerned I miscalculated lockdown. Anyone else ever have this issue? Did I completely mess up the hatch for the other chicks?

Beating myself up right now. I feel horrid.
