Colored Egg June Adopt-An-Egg Hatch Along!

Did you notice if Minty had a shadow in the shape of a sword in her egg? I expect she will hatch with a Damascus sword and full armor.

I was just excited to finally be able to see in to know it wasn’t a clear!

Update: It is day 7, I candled, took weights, and drew air cells. F2 looks questionable, and F4 is so dark I didn’t think it had an air cell at first but I found it. Good news: I saw veining in all 3 of the porous Olive Egger eggs! I did not take pictures because there was a lot to do and I didn’t want the eggs out too long. Bad news: F1 had a weird bump along it, and when I candled it looked like a tiny crack, and it almost seemed like it was being pushed out toward the crack like pressure…so I removed it, cracked it outside, there were a few blood streaks but it didn’t stink. I am just glad I took it out as I had visions of an incubator egg explosion!

Weight loss was all between 3.5% and 6.3% with an average of about 4.5%. Air cells were around the same size. One Legbar egg had a slightly tilted air cell rather than a circle at the tip, but it was at the correct end of the egg. Here are a few pics of the incubator after the air cells were drawn. I marked the tilted air cell, im sure it was from shipping but it is not moving so I am hopeful it will work out ok.

I think you’re right! So no air cell tomorrow, just candles.

I wanted to check F2 & F4 tonight because they were the two I couldn’t really see much in. F2 was cloudy but I didn’t see veins, and F4 was dark brown and porous. First, I candled O3 (the darkest olive egg), and I could clearly see a little chickie moving around!

When I checked F4, I saw nothing. I decided to take a chance and crack the eggs since my hunch was nothing was inside. F4 was clear, and F2 looked like it had a broken yolk.

Then I felt bad so I candled a few more of the farm eggs, F5, F8, F9 & F10, and I could see babies in all of them! So I felt better.

Down to 18 in the incubator.

I think I’m going to call the woman at the farm to tell her how many infertiles there were. I hatched her eggs last month and only 4 of 18 were clear, so losing 5 clear out of 12 already is higher than expected. Maybe it was super hot…anything else that could affect fertility?

I’m keeping all eggs on the outer ring, and rotating 2 into the middle each day, just for some placement variety.

I also decided to write the egg number and letter on the other side of each egg, to make ID easier if the code is on the bottom. To view rotation, I wrote the number and then the letter on that side (5F instead of F5). Now I can see which egg is which no matter what way it is turned!
