Colored Egg June Adopt-An-Egg Hatch Along!

Pics
Candled the 15 eggs again tonight (May do this nightly until lockdown, just to keep an eye out).

All still moving and veins!

Also, I found another thread on here that showed how to measure expected weigh loss each day if you aim for 15% on day 21. You make a graph from 1-21 (for days) on the bottom (X axis), and weight loss % on the side 1-15 (y axis). I put a point at 21,15, and drew a diagonal line from 0,0 (origin) to that point. So on any given day, you can weigh the viable eggs, add the weights, calculate the percentage weight loss using the original weights of the viable eggs, and plot the point to see how close it is to the line (where it is “supposed” to be.) If anyone is still with me, look at my graph! Weight loss is spot on! 😂

This is great if you take weights on a day “other” than 7 & 14 which I would look for about 5% & 10%.

Definitely need to use this next time with students. You can talk about trends and forecasting. You might even touch on algebra with the slope = mx + b formula.

Surprise! I took candling pics! Check out your little babies growing!

Day 14. Candled and weighed all eggs. 15 still going! Weight loss for the group was 10.4%, almost exactly on my graphed expectation line!

Lowest weight loss were the Orpingtons (both 8.5%) and L1 & F8 (8.7%). Highest was E1 (whopping 14.2%) and F9 (12.9%). Considering the overall weight is about .1% from my line, I don’t think humidity needs adjusting! I try to keep it around 45, but it has jumped to low 50s when I’ve been at work and it started raining (affected the humidity indoors both times), and low 30s (when water evaporates during the evening, in the morning it usually drops about 10%.

All air cells have grown. 😊

I always had worst luck when candled every day due to oils on my hands clogging the pours on the egg. Olive eggs are impossible to candle lol tried two times couldnt see anything none grew, last time at least i got 7/8 to hatch
I can actually finally see in the Olive Eggers! It’s a struggle but there are veins and moving shadow! I have super dry skin (not oily at all), and I wash them before and after. So far, so good!

I’m so surprised you got 7/8 without seeing anything in your OE, that’s awesome!
