Hello! 6 month new backyard chicken lover here. I have two hens, don't know what breed or age but they are laying. One is white with a red comb and wattle and I've noticed that her face around her eyes and front of comb are turning black. I compared now to a photo when I first got her and definitely see a difference. The golden hen also has a little black on her comb when I look close. They both are acting normal, normal poops, plenty of appetite, comb looks normal otherwise. They have a nice big grassy run, plenty of room in the coop which is cleaned biweekly and they free range a few hours per day.

Should I try to wash it off? Is it a sign of something bad? first pic is when I first got her and last two are now with darkened face.

Yes, I tried cleaning it off and it comes off easily. Silly me :) Thanks for letting me know what breed she is!!
Toss some clean sand in her dust bath - it'll help keep that "eyeliner" from running!
White chickens are SO pretty ... until they're not. That's why I no longer keep white Silkies. They always found the blackest, loamiest dirt in the yard ... and those floofy feathers were EVIL to get clean! :D
