Comb and wattles -- signifies about to lay?

Almost all hens will lay somewhere in the day before 2:00am but if they are used to having a coop to roost in they will probally look there to find a nest...

I have 8 6 mo old BR hens and 2 Br Roos...They free range all day long and the coop is open all day. I have looked EVERYWHERE (even crawled up under the house yesterday) and can't find where they are laying IF they are laying. It has been 100+ degrees here. Does that have anything to do with it? Or are my girls late bloomers? Am I providing breakfast for some other critter? I don't find any broken eggs either.

I got my chickens the 1st of April and two of them (the golden buffs or red comets) are laying already. They've been laying one small egg each a day. It's so nice to go out and fetch the eggs! I can't wait until the eggs get bigger and the others start laying.

Before 2 am??? The sun isn't even up at that time, and they aren't even down from the roost then. How does that work?

I think it was supposed to be 2 PM.

lol

Sorry 2pm is correct.... my bad ...

I have straight run BO's. They are 3 1/2 mo old. Right now I can tell the difference between the roos and pullets. Will I have trouble in a few weeks when they start laying? I'm not too fond of the idea of feeling their pelvic area since I can't picture what to do even w/ the great directions. I need to see it done. In Sept. we are going to butcher all the roos except for 2. Do I need to seperate them while I can tell who is who?

Or am I making too big of a deal out of it. These are my first chicks.
