At what age do combs start to turn red?

After reading the advice for submitting photos, I realized the combs on my chicks are taking shape.

Depends on the sex of the bird and the breed.... males redden much earlier than females. Males may begin to show color well before 4 weeks, females color as they near the point of lay.
