Come hatch along with us!!! Last sets of the year! 10-18 to 11-7

So excited - my broody black australorp (first timer) was given 9 eggs to start. One was not fertile. Of the 8 left, 7 of them hatched (the 8th looked to be fully formed, but didn't hatch). Mama was up against cold temps, too - I don't heat or light our coop and it's been down to the teens in the last week. So proud of her! Hope she keeps up the good work with the chicks.

Wow! I am having the same numbers! I gave my broody 9 eggs (well I split them between her and her friend, but her friend quit, so she ended up with all 9)....anyways, 7 are hatched out, she left 2 behind while showing her brood the great outdoors. one of the eggs left behind was peeping, the other was clear, popped the one in the bator and gave it a little help-not sure if this was a good idea. So now she's back on her peeps for the night, I put the half hatched egg under her. Pics to follow...

Excellent, Blarneyeggs! Glad to hear you might have another, too. The one that didn't hatch for me, she was still sitting on and I debated leaving her on it for a couple more days, but the chicks that hatched were on Sunday and Monday so mama really needed to get up (and letting the chicks out!) and showing them where the food and water was.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to keep the chick feed away from the rest of the flock? I wish I had enough space to keep them completely separate and allow mama enough room to stretch, but that's not gonna happen. As of yesterday, I have the door to the kennel she brooded in open so they can come and go as they please. I have the chick waterer and feed about a foot away under a plastic crate - the holes in it are big enough for the chicks to go in (for now, anyway), but I much prefer the mama being able to get to it as well so she can teach the chicks. Probably can't have it both ways, I guess. Any suggestions or experience would be greatly appreciated, though.

I'm on day 18 and just went into lock down! Hoping for a good hatch :)
Good luck! We locked down 6 Wheaten Ameraucanas and 9 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes today. Hoping for a good hatch also.
