Thank you, I didnt have a meter during the first hatch , and decided to do the second hatch with more accuracy, out of 20 eggs only 7 hatched first time.

Welcome to our group.I was hoping there would a hatch along! I think I"m becoming a hatchaholic ;=) I have a doz Black Copper Marans and a doz mutts (lavender americauna/easter eggers) coming. Eggs should be here by Thurs, I think, maybe sooner. In the meantime I'm collecting whatever eggs are big enough from my own, barred bantiesX full size Buff Orgpington. My BO pullets just started laying and I doubt I'll get any full size eggs from them this week.
Somebody mentioned adding cayenne pepper to make them lay. What does that do?/how does it work?
I've been trying the cayenne pepper thing to see if it works. Its been suggested to "prod" hens to start laying. 8 bottles of cayenne later and sure enough ZERO eggs today at all -.- If i don't have an avalanche of eggs in the morning I'm calling this one BSI was hoping there would a hatch along! Thank you; looks like it will be a lot of fun!Welcome to our group.
I remember reading somewhere about old timers adding cayenne to help keep their body temps up in the winter so they would lay better, but I doubt that it would work that way since we know it's day length that affects laying in winter. And I know a lot of folks that eat cayenne to make themselves sweat when they get a cold....I've been trying the cayenne pepper thing to see if it works.
