I had the one pip yesterday and it hadn't made any progress when I came in for the evening...got up this morning prepared for the worst and I have a chick...nooooo I have 8 chicks all little white fluffies with black spots will upload a pic in a bit and have Pips in the other broody hens nest what a wonderful way to start the day

Those are the best hatches. You go to bed worried about the one and wake up to a bunch hatched. WAY LESS stress involved.

Candled the 1st dozen in the ultra-bator today (day 7). tossed one infertile egg most likely was a deformed turkey egg. others look ok. kinda a bit nervous about this being the first set. One for sure had movement, and didnt like the light one bit lol

So Marine do you sell all your chicks local?

Some of them I've been selling to a few friends locally, but most i thin out the weak ones, the rest of the mutts fatten up for freezer camp. Anything purebred for the most part will be keepers for the laying flock and or breeding pens.

Thats awesome!!!Congrats you know your bator works now. I'd like to build one like it for next spring.

So here my final count. Out of 5 Araucanas and 10 Marans that went into lockdown Friday evening all 15 hatched!!!






I have to set up a bigger brooder for these guys today. This one is way too small. That's what I get for assuming I would only hatch out 5 or 6 chicks.
