FINALLY GOOD NEWS!! Ill have 4 dozen mixed jersey giant eggs waiting for me on weds Ill go check and see what my girls left for me about noon, tho i don't have high hopes. Question tho. Now that I've got my bantys in their own pen they don't have the coop lay boxes available to them(not that they used them anyways). What do yall that have bantams use for lay boxes?

So the eggs I bought are for the most part not fertile. I candled and only 4 had any development out of 200. (although 1 I broke open because I wasn't sure any where fertile but stopped after that one). I talked to the guy I bought them from says he isn't sure what went wrong. He said he would talk to his brother about getting me some more eggs for free. I hope they will be fertile this time around.

5 gallon buckets, old milk crates, small rubbermaid container on it's side or the front cut in a "U"

I first started candling on day 3 and wasn't seeing anything so I cracked some open, and after about 15 finally found 1 fertile egg and stopped. So I left the remaining eggs and candled again on day 5. Candled them all and didn't see much. I kept 15 with little hope for all but 3 (which are defently developing) and left them in until day 8. Looked at the last eggs and threw out the rest (except the good 3) as I could see they where not developing. I did crack every single one open and not one had any sign of development. They did say that they have a seperate pen without roosters so I hope they just game me the wrong eggs.

Whew your good! can tell that much on day 5? Only 4 out of 200!!Thats really crazy.Wonder what happened there?

I was a little confused, it was day 6. But there eggs are not very dark, more of pale brown to cream color so they aren't that hard to see into. I just talked to them and they said that they sold all their chickens because they where really disapointed about the fertility issue, and will get more soon. But they have 15 dozen that they will give me. I may just sell the eggs on CL as eating eggs and buy Barred Rock chicks, that is what I was really wanting for next spring I can breed sex links again.

200 eggs seems funny all their hens are infertile or all their roos? Free is good.

Just candled the first time on my BBS Orps.DAY 7.
So far i THINK;
10 look just ok but Some look to me a little big for day 7
2 are iffy
4 were not any good.

2 or 3 of the bad are all dark... think its bacteria.
One is wonky the dark area inside moved around as i turn the egg.Think its just a yolk.
So now just wait another10 days to see how it is going(unless i cant wait that long!!).

Day 10 for me and I've got nothing. None even started. Well. More eggs on the way, anyone setting eggs later this week or next week??
