Come Hatch along with Us!!! Setting Oct12-Oct 20th

Day 10 for me and I've got nothing. None even started. Well. More eggs on the way, anyone setting eggs later this week or next week??
How long did you let the shipped eggs sit before you started turning? I have found with shipped eggs that if I let them sit for 12 hours and then set them in the bator upright in an egg carton and then don't turn them for 5-7 days I get development in almost all of them. From day 7-18 I turn them normally and during lockdown they stay in the egg cartons to hatch. RIght now I have 15/24 SIlkie eggs in lockdown. These eggs were shipped from Washington state to Florida.

My turn.
I have 13 SCRIW eggs in the incubator. Today is day 9, so I will probably candle tonight with the grandson because he will be over. I usually candle only once, around day 9 or 10.
I had 5 barnyard eggs in there to compare fertility rates, but I took the barnyard eggs out when I got 7 bitties instead of 3 I ordered.
So, I'll post candle results tomorrow.
Good luck to y'all on late season hatching, this is a first for me.

I let the eggs sit in a carton for 24 hours before putting them in the incubator but I usually turn them as normal. I will try your way this time. Thanks.

Thats always disappointing but who knows? Many ppl on here have gone to throw one bad one out to find a live baby.Is there any black in them at all?10 days they should be about 3/4 full. They dont HAVEto be moving to be alive.
Sorry if you know this already forget whos new to hatching.Kudos to you to keep at it.Dont quit!
I didnt get one chick until my 3rd hatch.then I just got mad and ordered 50!THENi got some.

Yep, setting some thurs or friday this week and probably another smaller set next week too https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...h-us-last-big-sets-of-the-year-10-18-to-10-31

At day ten you should see two things. Veins, and movement. None had veins, no veins = no life.
Grats on your chick! Can't wait for pictures!!

You should see those things .....but to newbies if you have dark eggs like i have had so far in 10 hatches i have seen veins only twice and i have never seen movement once in any so not necessarily dead if you dont see either.I have 25 chicks outside to prove it. so i wouldnt be so quick to throw them out if i was on my first or second hatch.Heck i only throw out the positive clears and leakers untl day 10 anyway just in case im wrong.I see so many here crack a "quiter" open to find a viable chick...its sad.Maybe white eggs are different than brown.I cant say there.
