OK we candled tonight and got great results.
All 13 of the mailed eggs were fertile! All showed veins and blobs swimming around in the egg. Today was day 9 of the hatch.
So, I may have some surplus SCRIRW chicks.
I was counting on 50%

Day 7 on my palomino brahma eggs....6 looked good.....well looked all the same.... so thats good!!...hAHA
I was a little dissapointed i couldnt see more as they are sort of cream.
I think my candler is not very good or wearing down as i could see even less in the darker BBS eggs that i lookd at Tuesday.Seems like i saw more then a little anyway .
Anyway day 10 i might candle again.

Roxanne I found these LED flashlights on ebay and they work fantastic as candlers. It takes about 2 weeks to get them because they are from china but for the cost it is well worth the wait. I bought 3 of them before I made my candler. They take 3 AAA batteries which are included.

Is it very big?I bought one from ebay about a month or 2 ago.It is about 4 inches long....Though i bought it from a company that sold incubatators hoping it would work well as the one i had didnt.Maybe its me.Might get this one anyway and see.Thanks

It's about 4" long and has worked great for me so far. You have to get one that has the 9 LED lights not the 5.

Chicken math is a lot of work...temps dropped 29 degrees last night Few days ago 80 degrees got all my older babies out of the bathroom. to outside in a run and plastic dog house..5 LBs So yesterday thought i would build a new coop before the cold hit...In one day (right)..Big asperation a coop in one day.When the wind and rain hit 6 pm i was really close to my suprise but had to put the 2 laced brahmas back in the tub. Darn!.Left the 5 LBs out in the Laced brahmas coop.Thelace brahmas at close to 3 month old still seem to have fuz on their back and not all feathers.so would have done worse in 35 degrees than my 5 LBs ...2 weeks my new babies will hatch..need..another coop for them.My front yard is looking like a chicken trailer park...5 chicken tractors out there.I know my neighbors are just shaking their heads as they drive by.
